Last week I finished recording guitars and bass for this band...very Dark Tranquillity oriented.
We tried different setups and we ended up using my 6505+ with a Hughes & Kettner 4x12 cab with v30, and an ESP Eclipse with EMG's.
Mics used were an sm57 and an ADK S7.
The track is still not cleaned so you can hear several noises here and there.
This is the guitar sound of a little breakdown part:

And this is the same part in a little premix with all the instruments:

What do you think about the guitar sound? I did this little premix but the mix will be done by another guy and probably the guitar sound will be reamped :)

im no pro. but the keyboard sounds very present and the guitar and drums sound farther away which gives me a weird feeling...:guh:

I wouldn't recommend making the keyboard sound worse but you need to make it fit in the mix somehow.

you could also add something thats guna add some presence in the guitar. add more highs to the guitar and turn up the drums. you might want to try using a different bass drum sample or layering it because it sounds very bassy.

however i am listening through computer speakers... hope i could help!

You're right but as I said, I'll not do the mix so it's only a quick test...I'm curious about what do you guys think about the raw guitar sound...the mix is only to have an impression with all the instruments

Uhm...scratchy because it's still unpolished or because of the sound?
I'm curious because it was the right spot in the best speaker of the cab...it can be the playing but in that case there is nothing I could do.

it sounds good but i think you are going to need a little bit more high mids in there. Of course that`s gonna depend on how you want the other instruments to sit in the mix. Good start
