What do you think of these bands..

Gardenian:

First two albums quite boring Gothenburg with a great clean singer on Soulburner. Latest Sindustries is a good slab of Gothenburg influenced metal but does sound different from other bands.

The Crown:

Latest is great death/thrash though I got bored of it rather quickly. Older work is more deathy but nothing that great.

Amon Amarth:

Only heard the new one, good viking influenced melodic death.

Old Man's Child:

Boring Dimmu Borgirish band.

Darkane:

Good thrashy Gothenburg but bored of them rather quickly too.

Gardenian : never heard of

The Crown : heard of, never heard any music

Amon Amarth : VVVIKKIIINNGGG! The crusher is their best work, but I listen more to the avenger, which is more raw...

Novembre : never heard of

Old Man's Child : Their newest work is pretty standard black, with one very good song, Phantoms Of Mortem Tales. Their older work (Ill-natured Spiritual Invasion, The Pagan Prosperity) are truly masterpieces.

Darkane : some sort of thrash, don't give my opinion yet, should hear more from this band before make a conclusion.

Gardenian- Soulburner is classic, one of my fave albums ever, but I thought Sindustries was one of the single worst albums EVER released. An utter disgrace. It made want to puke it was so bad (not unlike Bumblefoots avatar! :p ).

The Crown- My favorite straight frward death band. Awesome....
Amon Amarth- Very good though nothing original. I don't regret buying their last two albums, and they stand out among the heaps of swedeath bands currently running rampant.

Novembre- Decent, not my fave, but very good nonetheless

Old Man's Child- snooze time. Boooooooring...competent musically but ultra-snore inducing. But what do you expect from someone once involved in Dimmu Snore-gir? :D

Darkane- Rusted Angel was decent though not exceptional, and their newest just sounded like every Swedish melodeath release.

Must leap to the defence of two of my favourite bands here:

Gardenian: I got into them because of their cover of "A Dangerous Meeting" on the Mercyful Fate tribute, which was the best song on the compilation by miles. All their stuff is great - Sindustries does overuse the horrible Antares Autotune studio effect much in favour of shite boy bands, but the songs are really strong. Very different from anything Gothenburg, a welcome break

Darkane: When describing this band I would say "What Fear Factory would sound like if they
a) learned to play their instruments
b) had any balls"
Their last album "Insanity" is crushingly heavy, brilliantly executed, and utterly original. The drummer has a brilliant unusual style, and they do tribal bits of multi-layered vocals similar to Devin Townsend. The songs are really strong and they wipe the floor with most of their dull Gothenburg contemperies.

So there.
