AIFF seen as .aif files type stands for Audio Interchange File Format and was developed by Apple Computer... it's equal quality as Wave or SDII audio formats at a given sample and bit rate. it's the highest quality default audio file type standard for Apple computers and most all audio apps developed primarily on Macs. it's not a compressed format, so the files are the same size as Waves of the same sample and bit rates.. in other words, big. DP for instance saves all audio in the AIFF format i believe. i heard about a form of AIFF that does support compression, AIFF-C i think it's called... but i have no use for it, so i never learned much about it.
sorry, i didn't ,mean AFF i meant AAF. I just read somewhere that you can use this to import and export projects from different DAW's and I was curious to see how to use it. Sorry for the confusion, but thanks for replying!

I work as an audio editor in a Video post production studio. We use AAF and OMF files to recive session from the Avid video editors. I actually works really well. We get "handles" on either side of an edit so I can strech out a file if the video editor clips off the begining or ending of a word.
