What is this percussion sound?

Listen at about 0:35 when the chorus kicks in. I hear this kind of percussion a lot on ballads and I was wandering what exactly is used here. For one I guess some kind of shaker is used but I also hear something more. It's some kind of cymbal that falls on the same hit as the snare...

No the shaker is hitting twice as fast as the one that I'm talking about. It's something that's layering the snare.

Sounds like a tambourine to me as well. Not related but I've seen some drummers put one on their hi-hat and when keeping the tempo with the hi-hat pedal it sounds pretty nice. I would like to try to sample it one day.

Yep it's a tambourine. Had hard time hearing it at first though, thought you were talking about the shakers !

Like Tomas said, some drumers have them on their hats (I don't think it's the case here though) and I love how it sounds but it really only fits ballads (because it fills up the air more)
