I've used a C391B before. Sounded good but it clipped on some of the really hard hits (even with the pad in) and being a condenser you get a bit more cymbal spill than you do on a dynamic.

When you guys are doing this, do you process each mic separately (comp/eq), or do you bus them together and process the 'snare top' signal?

I eq them separately first, then buss them for additional eq if needed and then compress it on that buss, reverb etc

I've done it with an NT5. Not quite the same, but didn't sound bad at all.

57 and 184 is amazing. I imagine that the i5 would be even better suited to this sort of thing too. 184 is the shit on pretty much anything ever.
