What's the new Tool album like?

I'll tell you what I think on tuesday when it drops. I tried but couldn't find any REAL tracks early.

I've heard the entire album. It's kind of Meshuggah influenced, as far as heaviness and time signatures go. I'd also say it's a little more straight up rock in some parts. There are alot of weird guitar tones. Adam Jones had to have some new pedals made for the album because the tones he was going for did not exist at the time.

Tool are one of those bands that I guess you can't really label or put in a specific genre ... they are that kinda in-between genre's band.

It's cool, Theres not really a stand out song though.
I should probalby wait till I can get stoned to really enjoy it.

Once again the packaging is freakin awesome.

I've listened to it a few times already and I'm really getting into it.
Not to knock their past albums, but I got tired of those sound-effect filler tracks. This one has two but they actually blend in really well with the rest of the album and you don't really notice them.
I give it a 9 out of 10.

eh... Tool is a band I've never fully been able to get into... their new album is a bit more straightforward on the metal-front, though some of the songs start to sound the same after awhile, Jambia (if I'm remembering the name right) is probably the one I find decent off the album, the rest are just ok or boring IMO, a few fillers on it as well

that isn't very odd for me though, I find most of Tool's stuff boring, however they have released some amazing gems, unfortunately nothing on the new album falls into that category for me

Tool's gems: Aenima, Eulogy, and Schism

Tool could've popped up out of nowhere, released an EP with those 3 songs on it, broke up, and would've went down as one of the greatest bands ever as far as I'm concerned... although I know a ton of people feel different (on this board too it looks like) and that's of course cool :p , opinions opinions

I was a Tool fan for a long time - until I saw them on the Lateralus tour. They were so horrible live that I was completely turned off (especially since I wasted $90 on two tickets!) and haven't listened to them or cared since. It's very rare that I'll spend that kind of money on a concert, I was so let down. I actually wanted to go home and watch TV, it was that bad.

I keep telling myself to give them another shot, but I just get pissed off and say "fuck em" and never bother.

Every Band has a bad nite (or two or three), I wouln't give up on em for one bad showing.
It's like going to your favorite returant and having a bad meal. You still give em another shot.
I've seen some of my all time fav bands do shyte shows, but I still keep listening to them.

i saw tool on the lateralis tour too, i am not a big fan at all tho, i like one song in fact (stinkfist), cant remember what i was doing there, for the support maybe?.....but i went in open minded of course.... geez i hated that show..... far far too poncy for me, twas all smoke and mirrors and some dude stood looking lonely on stage in his pants.

I wish I could just think that way. Like I said, I've TRIED listening to them again and just can't do it. Every time I hear Maynard I think "Fuckin bastard stole $90 from me." :ill:

You guys missed out. They fucking slayed on the Aenima tour. The Lateralus tour sucked for the most part. Yes, it was visually cool but the band was super boring to watch because Maynard was on that stupid stage in the back where you couldn't even see him. The rest of the band just stands there for the most part. I have seen them 20 times and the best was when they were supporting Aenima. Maynard didn't have that dumb stage he uses now and he would usually start doing these crazy dances that are impossible to describe but are amazing to witness.
