When I first started out I ______________

I plugged my guitar into the PC directly via a Marshall Jackhammer pedal into a somewhat cheap 1/4" mono to 1/8" stereo plug. Took me a while to work out why it only came out of the left speaker. I subsequently also wondered why my guitar sounded so bad. Around this time my only understanding of an EQ's purpose was to use it for FX. Also, an FFT filter was 'that thing that gives you telephone voice'.

Just realized how funny that reads with your new signature. :D

In the beginning I had no idea that phase exists. I wondered why it didn't sound better using two mics in front of a guitar amp haha

I have a Zoom G2, I think that's almost as bad, you want to buy it off me?

I think of it now as a glorified (disgraced?) guitar tuner.

Anyway, when I first started out I asked for advice on Ultimate Guitars recording subforum....

I know, enough fucking said.

HAAAAAAAAAhahahahahahaha
sorry

When I first started out I thought that if you had to use automation you had hadn't EQed or compressed enough.

amennnnn

when i first started micing up my 5150 i thought putting it over the dustcap and pulling it 3 inches back was a bad idea
OH WAIT
I WAS RIGHT ABOUT THAT ONE.

+1, But mine wasn't the MKII. Damn just looking at that thing takes me back. Running a Metal Zone straight in, playing drums "live" on my Roland JX-305 Groovesynth... Taking breaks and playing Tomb Raider 2. Oh man the nostalgia. I'm probably gonna trip on this for a while, haha.

When I first started out was using a Tascam. A Porta07 model though :loco:

Drums I was using a drum machine - one of those ones about the size of a keyboard with 4 hit pads that you set to be different drums. You then actually give 'em a whack and play along...

I'd set it to like, a bass drum, snare, hi-hat and cymbal. Any double bass parts I had to overdub and then bounce the 2 tracks together into one :tickled:

Vocals I used to run through my guitar combo on a clean channel (with reverb set to max) and then use the preamp out straight into the 4-track.

The teenage years... Good times...
