Which EMG J Style Bass Pickup?

Title says it all, which would you recommend for metal on a 4 string J Style Bass?

Is it for a fender? What didn't you like about stock? The JA is a little warmer than the J. I haven't heard the JV but presumable it has a more traditional attack.

It's a Squier but yeah, same idea. And there isn't enough grunt and grit to it's tone for me. Seems there's so many choices for J style EMG's.

All of the emg's I've played are cleaner and more hi-fi than stock. To my mind "grit and grunt" describe hot passives but obviously we may have different sounds associated with those words.
If you're going to go the emg route I'd start with the J. They're solid and you should be able to find a set used.
