I can claim a $2000 tax deduction called the "hope credit" for the first two years, and $1500 for the years after that. That's also not counting federal and local grants and scolarships you could recive also. Do they help you guys out any over there?

Yes.
The gov gives us about 365,56 USD/month(tax-free) for going to school and that is a good amount of money if you are a student.
