Who Liked Mams Boys?

Loved Mama's Boys - Got a few albums (Power and Passion with extra pic disc, Turn It Up, Growing Up The Hard Way etc) and a couple of videos on a compilation with Black Sabbath (Trashed) Ozzy (Diary Of A Mad Man) Headpins etc.

Never understood why they didn't take off. I saw 'em at Milton Keynes at the Garden Party with Magnum, Marillion et al. They played a great set.

Saw them at Milton Keynes as well and thought they were brilliant. Like a lot of bands of that era, they seemed to get ruined by record company politics. I vaguely remember reading an article in one of the music mags of the time about Keith Murrell (ex-Airrace) joining them on lead vocals because apparently John McManus wasn't happy singing and playing bass. Strangely though, a few months later at the Mayfair in Glasgow, although Murrell sang most of the songs, John McManus was quite happy to take the lead on a lot of the older material. Of course, Murrell didn't last long and soon linked up with Sir Cliff as one of his backing singers. Mama's Boys then went through a succession of singers as replacements like Mike Wilson and Ric Chase. Funnily enough, just before they called it a day, they were back down to a three-piece. I just got the feeling the record companies didn't have faith in the group as a three-piece and felt they needed a dedicated frontman to be successful. However, the magic in the band always came from the fact that they were three brothers. If they had been left like that, who knows what might have happened?

Was at that gig myself at the mayfair/Venue! Good night, but saw M Boys on many ocvcasions, supporting the scorps, at the venue on a few occasions and they were awsome on the power & passion tour at the Mayfair. Great band.

I like the ma ma's boys,I just dont like the name there stuff is good wish I had more its hard in the usa to get all the good music.

saw em support thin lizzy at scarborough way back in mmmmm eighty something or other, good band to see live and the vocalist, vocals were awesome cant remember his name now 8/10 live

One of the brothers,Tommy I believe, succumbed to luekaemia quite a while ago. The other 2 recorded an album Moonchild under the banner Celtus as a tribute. It is far removed from Mama's Boys but it's a beautiful piece of Celtic folk. Won't be everyone's cup of tea but the musicianship is excellent.

It was on the Thunder & Lightning tour. Saw Mama's Boys supporting Thin Lizzy at the Hammy, and they were pretty good. I always loved 'Crazy Daisys House Of Dreams', great song.
