Why?

Anything lower than B is not even music.

Anyway, I think it's cool. The only downside is that 90% of the people who buy one will only be doing so because they think it is some how going to make them heavier or more metal than others. There isn't a lot of space in the sonic spectrum for the low end of an 8 string guitar in a rock/metal band. I think it's got great opportunities for solo instrumentalists and finger style stuff. It would open even more opportunites for chord melody playing. I wouldn't mind toying with one, but I don't think i would ever use it in the context it's going to be marketed for.

most people use them with an extra low string (F#) and I'm almost positive that's what the Ibanez will be set up for out of the factory (I use the term factory set-up very loosely...this is Ibanez we're talking about). It's hard enough to have a high "A" on a guitar with a standard scale length.....using one on an extended scale would be a nightmare.

Even he uses a custom SEVEN string, which is absolutely awesome...

I hope they make a six string version...

He's been using his custom Conklin EIGHT string for a while too. He even had a nine string for a while.

:OMG: Whoah!!! It's got fanned frets as well!!! :worship:

He must have super light strings on there, look how far he's bending the E string ( I think that guitar's 8th string is higher, not lower... ) :worship:

He goes both ways (I thought about wording that differently, but what the hell.....it gave me a light chuckle). He's got the conklin 8 string and a custom Ibanez 8 string. One is strung F-Eb and the other is strung Bb-Ab (half step down from what would be standard tuning in both cases). I forget which guitar uses which tuning.

WTF! I can't believe I didn't see this thread earlier. Anyway, yeah, I'll definitely be grabbing myself one of these if I ever have the money. I love extended range guitars. (Actually, to the point where I can't play 6 strings anymore... damn inferior things, they are...)
