Still missing the secrets.

Maybe he doesn't have them?

What if he just listens and tweaks what sounds good to him and then records it? Maybe it is just good taste combined with good gear choises suiting his style?

Of course that's not something people want to hear because that means they need to actually be / get good in order to succeed instead of copying and buying their way to 'that' sound.

I'd be careful questioning Marshy too harshly on this subject; the dude has spent more time with Putney than anyone on this forum and has all but duplicated his rig on the other side of the world. Will does some stuff that seems a bit foreign and alien to most metal guys when they first hear about it, but in practice it works out extremely well.

Sure, didn't mean to attack Marshy or anyone personally on the subject. Many hunt the magic bullet on these types of situations.. And usually the bullet doesn't exist.

I have a tendency to come up as a douché, as some might have noticed. :D

On the subject, I really haven't been listening to Putney that much.. But to me his sound seems to just consists of good organic recording and taste.. I'd ask 'what he doesn't do?' When you don't snap everything to grid, base your guitar sounds on plugins, edit / limit / slam / trigger / clip / you name it to death, that type of organic roar, seems to come up naturally.

Naturally, I might be talking shit.

Will is my buddy, I really look up to him a lot and think he is the shit. Obviously it goes without saying that his ear and engineering chops play a massive role in all of his productions but there are definitely some tricks to obtaining the sound.

^Like be a goddamn genius and have ears of fucking gold.

That said, Will just has what pop producers would call "It" and that makes his records sound like a fucking Putney production.

I'm drunk fuck you, you will never sound like will putney, I love will putney and thy art is murder's new album gives me faith in modern record production, fuck everyone who disagrees, you're deaf.

My top three favorite albums at the moment are the new Fit For An Autopsy, TAIM "Hate" and Molotov Solution's record. See the pattern? Will is a fucking genius. I loved watching this.

Cool man thanks for posting. Totally wasn't aware of the guy but his stuff (that I've checked) is awesome.

Is it just me or this album lack of low end?

I´m on you with that. But it sounds sick anyway haha. The kick was a little too clicky in the beginning - after listening to the album all the time the production/sound designing grows on you. That´s what i tend to feel.

It´s not part of the discussion, but, i still don´t get why the snare in the first song "Ravenous Disease" at 2:30 is hitting sooo hard in that blast beat.

Tones are just crazy shit... Can´t get over the drum sound and guitar tone. Loving it soo hard!!!

Hahaha so aggressive. I love this album!! Does someone know's about the gear(guitar-wise) they had used on that CD? Signal chain, amp and whatever. It sound fucking low and defined:yell:

Since Will did the whole thing, he most likely used 2 cabs (mesa and krank/diezel), and probably 2-3 heads. Like in the vid he most likely used a 5150, diezel, and maybe something else. But i can be totally wrong on this one - just me guessing on this one.
