Anyone else heard much from these guys? I caved to the JJJ machine and bought their new one tonight, it's kinda cool.

There's a definite Sabbath sound there, dunno if they're really clones.
They do sound rather derivative of that whole era though.

Still it makes a change to hear that music on the radio rather than Missy Higgins.

their first EP was great - even if it really was a Sabbath clone.

Their newy has more PF and LZ influences however... the film clip that pays tribute to Live in Pompeii is pure class :headbang:

I like 'em.

From what I have heard, Wolfmother sound more like Led Zep than Sabbath.

Pretty impressive that they have only been around for just over a year, and have already got a song fairly high in the hottest 100, played the Big Day Out, and had a song nominated for ARIA song of the year, all before their debut was released.

I like Evermore.

evermore suck ass.

this band had a sort of retro 70s look and they're playing on a stage out in the middle of nowhere somewhere. I thought they had a good sound and the guy had a good voice, but the song seemed a bit under-written for my money.

But, that's just on the first listen. It might grow on me.

Either way it's definately nice to see some real homegrown rock getting somewhere.

Evermore are ram rooter's aren't they?

Wolfmother suck. Why can't people write their own brand of music?

Speaking of which, I hope that when Iggy Pop comes here, he beats the hell out of Jet. That is, if they haven't broken up yet because imitating people is too much for them to handle as a band. They (and many others) will be one of those bands that starts off copying bands, then they will change their style to something completely different because every other band in the world is recording similar music. People will praise this as a 'coming of age', a time of 'finding their own feet'. This is not natrual progression like most good bands who build their band. It's forced change to remain marketable.

I first heard Evermore when they supported The Tea Party last year, before they were charting and getting songs on The OC soundtrack, so I wasn't familiar with them, and they blew my mind live. I then gave the album a few good listens, and it is really great. I see how some of the singles are pretty bleh, but in the context of the album they sound far better.

The album is great. Sure we have heard it all before but I think they put in enough fresh ideas to keep the whole cd interesting. Pyramid is an awesome song, my fav at the moment.
Good too see a band like this getting some attention..... Sure beats another Hillary Duff clone being in the spolight!!!!!

Yeah I thought perhaps Wolfmother were more Led Zeppelin sounding but didn't want to say since I don't really listen to them

Almost typed Woofmother there :D

Evermore...well I don't get into them much at all, but they're fairly young guys that have done pretty well, writing their own stuff so you gotta give them credit for that. If I understand right they have been writing and playing together since they were young young kids, which I suspect is longer than Coldplay have been in the charts...

As for people writing their 'own' music, how many truly original bands are out there, really? Unless you've been living in your own musical bubble all your life and never heard any music whatsoever, it's hard to not be influenced by other music on some level. Though there are some bands that sound just a little bit too much like others...
