Woods 3 The Deepest Roots and Darkest Blues

Exactly the same amount as the one and only pressing of "Pursuit...", a cool 1000 copies. With the way that music technology and the industry is changing, "W3" may very well be the last new WoY album pressed on CD. We'll probably be releasing the next album 'on water' [/dethklok], limited to 1000 bottles, hand numbered.

I edited this message after listening the tracks more...I still think the lyrics are the weakest point and at least for me, I would say that this sound like Vintersorg and I'm not a fan of V. either...

M.Lehto - That's too bad! We have some people who post on our forum who loooooooooove YOUR band!

+ I'm cool with the Mr. V comparison. Though our bands are very different, I'm still a big fan and he has been an inspiration for what we do, especially early on. As for us, we're still developing our sound. Cheers! :kickass:

We recorded everything we wrote and you got everything that we recorded.

I listened to an interview with Jon Schaffer recently, and he was talking about how he's always done the exact same thing, and how he doesn't like the idea of writing and recording 25 songs and picking the best 12 to release on an album. "I put so much into each song, I don't have time to write extra songs that will just be thrown away" or something like that.

In principle, I totally agree with that methodology; it means you're writing songs for a purpose, not just shitting out a random collection of riffs and applying them to a template. And in the case of Iced Earth, where that process produces 8-14 song albums of 45-60 minutes, it works out perfectly for me.

But if it gets much longer than that, my attention starts to waver. Or, more specifically, it becomes more difficult for me to visualize the map of the album. And unfortunately for me (but maybe nice for the artist?), I'm not a track-skipper. So in some ways, I would like the artist to be the editor for me, because I'm unwilling to do it myself.

Anyway, the album length wasn't really a serious complaint; it's quite possible that with more listens, I'll become more familiar with the album, and I'll be able to visualize the whole thing with no problem. I just thought it was interesting to hear your perspective along with Jon Schaffer's.

With the way that music technology and the industry is changing, "W3" may very well be the last new WoY album pressed on CD.

So, any chance of getting a head-start on that practice with W3 (or even the older albums)? I still haven't seen it for sale as a digital download anywhere yet. Or am I just looking in the wrong places?

Hello Neil,

So, any chance of getting a head-start on that practice with W3 (or even the older albums)? I still haven't seen it for sale as a digital download anywhere yet. Or am I just looking in the wrong places?

Not yet. Becoming available like that hasn't come easily for us. We haven't yet captured the attention of i-tunes, and SNOCAP and most other similar services, aren't legally available for Canadians to sell their music through (last time I checked).

In the meantime, while still on CD...

Now four weeks at #1!!!

yeah grats about that Mr. Gold. Honestly I'd like to order your new album through TER, but I'm still waiting on that order I made 2 months ago.

So I couldn't get into this album when it was first released, but seeing Woods at HC3 has made me revisit it. While there are a few lamers, there are several tracks (Most notably: Northern Cold, Ontario Town, Through Chaos and Solitude I Came, Distractions of Living Alone, title, Song of Redemption, Mistakes Artists Make) that more than make up for them. :kickass:

Best band at HC3 -- playing the demo from start to finish was spot on

I admit, I'm having withdrawal from that weekend. HIV is mandatory at this point.
