I own everything from '68 - '75 except Book Of Tailysin (sp?), Perfect Strangers, Slaves & Masters and Bananas.
I got Fireball the other week and it just confirmed that Mk. II is the essential lineup. As I guess y'all know I am very passionate about Mk. III - horrifically underrated! It's cool how the sound changed with Coverdale and Hughes - a much broader scope, everything from the rockers, mellow emotional shit, funky dance numbers, everything on just two albums. Both have great voices, I'd say this lineup pushed the envelope out as much as Mk. II did, just in a different direction.
Come Taste The Band is a phenomenal album too. I've had it for over a year but lost it and just found it last week. Even more original. Glenn Hughes sings a song solo on there, can't remember which one it is, but fuck he's got a stunning set of pipes.

And The Final Countdown is one of the best riffs ever for a great song. That is all that can be said.

Deep Purple - only got Machine Head, but I think that's pretty good considering I'm only twenty... hehehe...

As for most annoying riff ever, I reckon it'd have to be Nirvana, Smells Like Teen Spirit. Every time I hear it, I want to kill something.
