Wow! I just heard Wildest Dreams!

I agree with her... it's very below par, IMO. I expect more from Maiden - am I wrong to expect more?

I think it'd be a great song if the chorus wasn't so plain.

It's the first single, and also the first track on the album. Traditionally, these have never been the best song on a Maiden album. Comparing this as an opening track with all previous opening tracks, it's pretty strong, and heralds well for an awesome album.

That's what I'm hoping anyway.

I only listened to it once or twice before deleting it, so I shouldn't really pass judgement. But what I did hear excited me, because it would seem Maiden have given up pretending they're a second rate prog band.

Well, the album is meant to be their most progressive yet (or so I've heard).

Phloggy, no way is this song a match for other first singles or openers (except for perhaps TAATG). IMO :p

I wish I was joking, and I even wish I was wrong. But alas, it's a dreadfull song, and was it not for the fact that Mark is going to buy the album regardless, I would have held off on Dance of Death until I had heard something else to convince me to part with £13 for it - because that song doesn't.

There's still a chance that there is better stuff on the album, and I can only hope that that is the case. If, however, the rest of the album is anything like Wildest Dreams, then it will be a very sad day in this household. :(

The Angel and the Gambler wasn't an opener, Futureal was. But it was the first single, and now that I've read your post again I'm going to assume that's what you were referring to.

Personally, I think Wildest Dreams is a great song. I think anyone who doesn't like it is just being silly.

There's some link somewhere in one of the older threads, Winnie. Try page 2 if it's not on page 1. :)

If I was a nice guy I'd find it for ya. Sorry. :(

Let's do a quick survey on openers then. My opinion is final, and no correspondance will be entered into.

Prowler vs Wildest Dreams: Prowler.

The Ides of March vs Wildest Dreams: Wildest Dreams.

Invaders vs Wildest Dreams: Wildest Dreams.

Where Eagles Dare vs Wildest Dreams: Wildest Dreams.

Aces High vs Wildest Dreams: Aces High

Caught Somewhere in Time vs Wildest Dreams: Caught Somewhere in Time

Moonchild vs Wildest Dreams: Moonchild

Tail Gunner vs Wildest Dreams: Wildest Dreams

Be Quick Or Be Dead vs Wildest Dreams: Wildest Dreams

Sign of the Cross vs Wildest Dreams: Sign of the Cross

Futureal vs Wildest Dreams: Wildest Dreams

The Wicker Man vs Wildest Dreams: The Wicker Man

hmm...interesting that. Some tough calls in there as well. I still maintain that the overall sound of Wildest Dreams augers well for the rest of the album. Everybody knows that the simple, driving rocker isn't Maidens strength (even though they have a couple of beautys), the complicated epic is more their thing, and by all accounts, DOD has them in spades. Listen to Wildest Dreams again, but pay real close attention to the way that all three guitars are being used properly this time, and the fact that it's a simple, driving rocker that's really complicated.

I like it coz its a simple rocker and that's what my favourite Maiden stuff is. I don't like the progressive stuff. Brave New World sucks because its too progressive. There could have been some more great songs on it if they shortened them and got to the point.

I'll do this thing too:

Prowler vs Wildest Dreams: Prowler.

The Ides of March vs Wildest Dreams: Wildest Dreams.

Invaders vs Wildest Dreams: Invaders

Where Eagles Dare vs Wildest Dreams: Where Eagles Dare

Aces High vs Wildest Dreams: Aces High

Caught Somewhere in Time vs Wildest Dreams: Caught Somewhere in Time

Moonchild vs Wildest Dreams: Wildest Dreams

Tail Gunner vs Wildest Dreams: Wildest Dreams

Be Quick Or Be Dead vs Wildest Dreams: Wildest Dreams

Sign of the Cross vs Wildest Dreams: Wildest Dreams

Futureal vs Wildest Dreams: Wildest Dreams

The Wicker Man vs Wildest Dreams: The Wicker Man

I dont mind it, not anywhere near as good as The Wickerman though, but thats probably because they are different songs from different albums.
