I picked up a nice book yesterday.

"Lost for Words: The Mangling and Manipulating of the English Language"

It takes the Orwell quote "...the slovenliness of our language makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts," and expands it into a 334 page book. It's a breezy, casual read with a lot of humor. I like all of the talk about the American influence of English (the book is written by some grey-haired BBC broadcaster).

It's very relevant book if you subject yourself to heavy metal 'journalism' or if you are ever exposed to press releases. It's also a very relevant book if you're planning to write album reviews with the intent of being informative instead of persuasive. (I wonder if all of the flowery, creative language in album reviews is inspired by the particular album being reviewed, or inspired by the burning desire to believe that all of these albums really are that different and dressing up the language is the only way to describe these albums differently).

Odd thing to pick up at a Finnish bookstore. :D
