DUDE, don't buy cause of brand names!
these two poweramps sound really different from each other (well, as different poweramps can sound), es sollte nicht "egal" sein, welchen du kaufst!
Engl and Mesa couldn't be more different, saying "I want a mesa or an engl" is the same as saying "I have no idea how these things sound and what I want, but I don't care, as long as it's got a logo of a brand on it of which people think that it's good".
I know that's not why you're buying stuff, but noone would say "I wanna buy a Ferrari or a Hummer" cause those cars are competely different from each other, you should first find out what sound you want, then what amp gives you that sound...don't buy because of brand names.
plus: what the fuck is it with Engl and Neubrandenburg, why does everyone in NBtown think those amps are the holy grail, lol?
seriously, EVERY single Band from NB I've talked to/worked with thinks Engls are the best amps ever...without having tried much else.
I know, that's Penz's and Martin's fault, lol...and I'm not saying the amps aren't good, but I'm getting the feeling that everyone in NB is buying amps based ONLY on recommendations without trying different types of amps first.
if you're looking for opinions here's a little summary of the poweramps I used to own)
-the engl poweramps are alright (I had them all when I was in my 19" phase), not great, but ok (I had el34 and el84 versions mainly).
-the Marshall el50/50 are good (quality), but I never liked the sound too much, but that's just taste, they're good poweramps.
-Mesa 2:90: pretty good
-Mesa 295/3/95: great poweramps, second best poweramps in the World IMO, definitely better than the 2:90
-VHT 2150: THE BEST POWERAMP EVER BUILT! BY A MILE!
they all sound really different though, You'll HAVE to try them before you buy one
