I tracked drums for them this weekend, the guitarists are doing DI's themselves then passing it back to me to mix. I don't have the facilities for reamping at the moment so need to outsource.

They are in the same vein as Suffocation, Dying Fetus etc, so something big and aggressive is required. Really classic death metal but with a modern edge.

5 song EP, 2 guitar tracks for the most part, 4 tracks on some parts for thickening.

Cheers.

I have a Vintage Japan made HM-2 and a 5150. Here's a clip of a tone I've made using this rig previously.

This is the HM-2 through the input jack of the amp, I could also run the pedal through the FX Return to bypass the preamp and the sound would be clearer. This makes a good extreme death sound though.

kinda OT, but is it normal for the postgain to not control the amp's output when doing this? i recently tried running my just-acquired HM-2 thru the FX return of my 6505+, only to find that the power amp was at full blast all the time, and i could only control the level with the volume knob on the pedal itself =/

As far as I know, most Tube amps are designed this way. I guess they figure that anything that someone will want to run into the power section of their amp will either already be at the right signal level, or have some sort of signal attenuation present. I think the opposite is the exception, and off the top of my head, I can't think of an amp that exhibits this, short of having a FX Return Trimmer, but that's not really the same as having the Master vol affect the signal when the input is taken from the FX Return.

fair enough, i suppose...i just thought i'd confirm that i hadn't somehow found a way to botch such a straightforward process!
