I might be a little late on this. Has this been discussed? Apparently these two bands are going to be doing a collaboration very soon like. Southern Lord recently got hooked up with Xasthur (considering they both live in LA). I think its a good match. We'll see what comes of it.

from what I heard he was going to contribute on their next album "Black1"

and I think I saw from a studio report that he's on several tracks, some guitar on a song or two, and vocals on one, I think.

Hahahahahaha that is both very much kvlt, grim, and trve beyond anything I've ever heard ... It's also a bit much. Very anxious to hear this though.

Xasthur just needs to slow down and concentrate on making quality instead of quantity.

I hope this collaboration leads to renwed inspiration for Xasthur (although having discovered them through the later albums, they haven't been spoiled by stagnation that much for me), and a black metal influence in SunnO)))) should allow for them to explore new dimensions of being repetitive and heavy in the extreme...
As for the coffin, anyone can aspire to be grim through deliberately bad production, I think of it as a morbid way of immersing yourself in the music.
