I saw Yngwie for the first time on Saturday, despite being a fan 20+ years. It was worth the wait! There was a good mix of old and newer stuff in the set, though playing along to the classical stuff on tape was kinda weird. Derek looked really bored on keyboards and was hard to hear.
We had to wait 50 minutes after the opening band, which I missed, due to technical problems with YJM's rig.
I recently saw Eric Johnson and Joe Satriani, and YJM was better than both, though EJ was really good too. Still, YJM is a much better performer, very natural onstage, and his fast improvising was much more musical. JS put me to sleep with his stuff, and I even left early, though I like his playing. I expected more from JS. YJM exceeded expectations.
I must say that of the 3, YJM gave off more of that "I'm a legend for a reason" vibe, not on purpose, but just because there he was, doing what only he does, his way, dead-on, true to himself like always. Even the old-ass beat-up looking amp cabinets were "real". It was cool.
Rock on!

P.S. Check out my own YJM-inspired licks on "Still at Large" from my first album: http://www.randyellefson.com/albums/thefirebard.html
