Interesting...the longer I live the more I am convinced that what Henry Ford said is correct, namely that most "history" is bunk.

History is taught from the point of view of the victors. Largely false but accepted as fact, since we are on topic of WWII, a great example of this "human soap" myth from the concentration camps--many people were taught this as fact--jews were made into bars of soap for use by germans and it is complete crap. It was a way to demonize germans, and to justify some of the Allies excesses (like the fire bombing of Dresden)

If history is largely false, how are we to know what is truth and what is fiction? I had never heard the story about Jews being made into soap though. Not sure I would have been able to believe it if I heard it anyway. I don't think I have ever seen a clean Jew in any of the concentration camp photos I was shown.

Thats the point, we are made to believe things from a certain point of view. DO you think that history taught in N Korea, China, Iran, or even Russia is the same thats taught in the US, and UK? No, of course not because it more benefical to have history slanted in your favor, especially in the cases of war. Its like the old saying, "theres your side, my side and then theres the truth"

I am not attacking your post, I just asked you to give me more information. Your point about being taught from a point of view made sense to me. IF I took your post wrong then I do apoligize but when someone starts out with:

I take that as combative

As stated above, I do not believe that history is taught from a neutral-3rd person perspective, hence I gace the example of the nazi/jewish soap myth that for many years was taken as fact.
