ZERO HOUR TO OPEN FOR QUEENSRYCHE!!!

Great news Jasun/Troy.

Won't it be a tad awkward once Geoff hears Chris's voice?

<<Chris Sings>>
Geoff: "Hey, umm, dude. Was I onstage and just didn't know it?"

Nah...it's been so long since Geoff sang like that, he's probably forgotten he ever could, so he'll probably just be really impressed. And jealous. :heh:

Besides, though there's definitely some similarities between Chris and Geoff (range and tone), I think Chris has sounds less like Geoff on the latest ZH disc. He's retained all the GOOD things that were similar (great tone, range, etc), but has developed more of his own sound and style. On the first Power of Omens disc, he sounded pretty much exactly like Geoff, which was impressive (and I *LOVE* that disc), but I'm glad he's developed more of his own style.

HUGE congrats to Chris, Jasun, Troy, and Mike on a WELL-deserved opportunity. Couldn't have happened to a nicer or more deserving bunch of guys. Wish I could be there, but it was great to at least see you at BARfest!

Let's face it...Chris is a Tate clone...even sang(sings?) in a tribute band. But, he does stretch the range as Tate did in his earlier days...age & massive touring takes it's toll.
Great achievement for ZH...puts them in front of a segment of fans that they may not have reached. QR should be impressed.

Only if Geoff thinks he's listening to himself circa 1986. Geoff hasn't hit notes that high since he saw the opening week sales for "Hear in the New Frontier".

Let's face it...Chris is a Tate clone...
I'd disagree (shocked?). While there's clearly a strong influence, I wouldn't go so far as to call him a clone. His natural voice and Geoff's are hardly identical. Plus, Chris often sings entire passages in his higher range, whereas Tate rarely did that.

I have heard both gentlemen sing "Queen of the Ryche" and it's NO contest. Chris hands down!! It would be cool to see Chris in his hometown on the same stage with Geoff!! Unfortunately, Texas Madfest is that weekend!! So much metal - so little time!!

Chris :headbang:

Great news and congratulations! Maybe you guys will remind the boys in QR what a progressive metal band is supposed to sound like... And I say this as one of the Ryche's biggest fans. <sigh>

AWESOME!! That's definitely great news for you guys and I'm so stoked for you! You guys RULE and this is a great opportunity for a great bunch of guys who all happen to be top notch musicians too! What an honor too. While QR hasn't released anything worthy for a while, they WERE amazing in their time and a huge influence to me and so many others.

Zod, I just about pissed myself with the "one hand" comment! So true, so true!

I also agree with you 100% about Chris vs. Geoff - Chris is most-definitely influenced, but NOT a clone. And like a singer has never been influenced by Tate before! That's like a guitarist not being influenced by Malmsteen! ;) ZH is going to tear up that stage! Just in musicianship, energy, and presence alone QR won't know what hit them!

Differing opinions. l say if Chris never hears Geoff's singing style...his own approach would be different and possibly he wouldn't even register on the metal scene radar. Seems to me he copied Tate's style & delivery. Copy = Clone.
But, l'm not taking anything away from Chris. l like what he does...he does it well.
Again, l'm happy for the ZH guys...they deserve more recognition.

That's what makes this place interesting.

I can agree with the first part. Tate has clearly had a large impact on Chris' style. However, Chris also has a ton of ability and a lot of drive (he's been doing this for a long time). So I think it's reasonable to assume he would have done something with his gifts.

Influenced enough that he sang in a QR tribute (read that clone) band. ;)

Absolutely

True dat. As l mentioned, l like what he does. So far his PoO work ranks the highest for me.

Still riding high on last year's landmark album Specs of Pictures Burnt Beyond - easily the most successful album and touring schedule to date for the California act - Zero Hour's hard work and best lineup to date keeps paying off.

Following their massive headlining European dates, a full US tour and intense positive coverage coming in from all over the globe over the last year, Guitarist Jasun Tipton has landed a signature guitar deal by Italy's Manne Guitars (full press release below).

The band is currently in the studio working on their next album with more info to follow shortly on the opus's progress... The band is always up for interviews or coverage of any kind, show opportunities and more, so send any requests to Earsplit.

Upcoming ZH gig with more TBA:
June 23rd - Phoenix Theater - Petaluma, CA
July 14th - Opening for Queensryche - San Antonio TX

"The band is back in action full force. Keyboards are almost non-existent; the music
is once again fformulated by the Tipton brothers' unmistakable rhythms
and Mike Guy's forceful drum beats." 5/5 - Sea of Tranquility

"If Specs... gets Zero Hour the recognition they deserve, I can think of quite a few legends
who might have their work cut our for them trying to catch up." - Metal Maniacs

"...Specs of Pictures Burnt Beyond thrives on extreme angularity... Zero Hour loves difficult
time signatures. This is the type of disc that — like a lot of avant-garde jazz and
avant-garde classical — must be accepted on its own challenging terms." - All Music Guide

"Each track will sink into your senses for an experience
rather than a simple listen." - Explicitly Intense

"...one of the finest, pound-for-pound progressive metal acts in the world.
It rarely gets any better than this." 95/100 - Metal Reviews

--------------------------
A professional lead guitarist fronting a progressive metal band must be highly creative and lightning fast, with a full-on high-energy in-your-face attitude. It is a challenging undertaking, full of complexity and requiring virtuosity of the first order. One of the most important requisites for success is very tough, reliable, high quality equipment which can really pound the audiance with heart-stopping crunch and soaring leads.

Ask Jasun Tipton, lead guitarist for the American Prog-metal band Zero Hour. He plays only MANNE guitars from Italy, and here is what Jasun says about his custom built MANNE Ventura 7-string: “I wanted a light guitar that would provide a crunch that not only moves myself but the listener as well. At the same time I wanted my rhythm tone to be ideal for my lead playing. With the dynamics of many styles Zero Hour plays the guitar had to produce a warm, lush clean tone that is a necessity to anyone's sound. Manne has the best guitar necks ever and once you start playing one you can't put it down. I love my Manne guitar and I would be playing Manne even if I wasn't endorsed by them.”

Neck: maple/laminated beech
Pickups: one active EMG 81-7 at the bridge
Bridge: Stop Tailpiece
Hardware: Black
Tuner: E-Z-Lok Wilkinson black
Finish: Satin black with custom silver graphics
