Anyone heard this yet? I'm having a hard time getting into it so far. Seems too simple and straightforward. Almost a different band since Shadows & Dust...

I'm feeling the same way about the new Decapitated also, (I remember someone here saying the same thing). ..Death Metal albums these days just don't blow me away.

I'm dying to hear...Kataklysm in addition to being what I would consider friends of mine are one of my favorite DM bands.

Link to mp3?

Kataklysm is also one of my favorite Death Metal bands. Can't wait for the album. Their website (kataklysm.net) should have an mp3.

I will say that after listening to the song, that I'm not entirely thrilled by it.

I will still get the album, b/c they haven't let me down in nearly 4 years now, but I hope it's better than that song.

This album is starting to grow on me just a little. The song For All Our Sins is pretty sick. The Night They Returned also sounds good..

notman (Evil C) sent this out to me via e-mail. I figured it was an interesting and funny read for this thread:

We've spent more than enough time talking about the Stratovarious
soap opera, but has anyone been keeping up with the Kataklysm/Devil
Driver feud? It started when Kataklysm was bumped off of Opeth's
current North American tour in favor of nu-metallers DevilDriver.
It's pretty funny. Here's the latest (from BraveWords.com):

KATAKLYSM vocalist Maurizio Iacono has contacted BW&BK with a
response to comments made by DEVILDRIVER's Dez Fafara suggesting
Maurizio "shut the fuck up and take a listen to DevilDriver" before
commenting on the group.

This back and forth business stems from Maurizio's disappointment
over DevilDriver being chosen over Kataklysm to support OPETH on
their North American tour.

A direct quote from Maurizio at that time stated, "Today is a sad day
not only for Kataklysm, but for real metal in general... no
disrespect intended towards Devildriver `coz I dont even know the
guys personally except for the fact that there's an ex-Coal Chamber
member... what I'm saying is shit happens, we lost the tour... so
what, business is business... but to lose it to a band that comes
from the Nu-metal era is what I dont get, that style is dead and now
they are trying to make themselves look real by getting on real metal
tours. If Opeth, Kataklysm and Moonspell would be on a Nu-metal tour
we would all get tomatoes thrown at us, but we as real metalheads
have to sit back and accept shit like this happening to our scene...
anyways politics right?"

Fafara's rebuttal included the following statement: "I bought their
new album, it's great. I've never met the guys so for him to take
shots at me, maybe he hasn't heard DevilDriver... We wish they were
on this tour with us, but when he starts calling me nu-metal and this
and that, he should shut the fuck up and take a listen to
DevilDriver."

The following is Maurizio's latest comments on the matter: "First
off, how can you have bought my new album when it only comes out in
March? Anyways, I find it weird for someone to realise after 8 years
of playing Nu metal with Coal Chamber that he hates everything he
ever was during that time... it took you a damn long time to realise
it, I guess its never too late.

Where i come from (the underground) touring is not about money to
support your family, you just didn't get my point... so your wrong
about my so called bitterness towards that situation. Yes, it's an OK
sideline of course but you do it because you love it and because its
what you believe in. So you didn't get it right or your in it for the
wrong reasons.

With this said... I have a proposal for you, Kataklysm is presently
working on a headlining tour with Misery Index and All That Remains
for May. There's still a spot available, put your money where your
mouth is and join the tour, lets see if you can handle a true
underground tour... but warning: this aint Sevendust so bring a
helmet! Maurizio."

From Dez' initial reply to Mauricio: You know, just because eight years ago I helped create a scene, that I can't fucking stand now — he should take a look at what I'm doing now before he opens his fucking mouth...

This I found particularly amusing...he says he can no loner tolerate nu-metal, yet still tries to stake his claim as one of its creators!

Exactly. Only one person comes off there sounding like a douchebag, and it ain't Maurizio. Dez seems like a prick, so I'll just assume he is one.

Oh yeah, and FYI, that e-feud is old news, like, months and weeks old (I think).

I was following that feud for awhile as well. Mainly because it irritated me that I had to miss Kataklysm in concert and then had to put up with Devildriver for 45 minutes before Moonspell hit the stage when I went to the concert.

Josh, self-proclaiming yourself the "death metal guru" doesn't make it so you know. ;)

And I'm sure you're also aware that your opinion on this matter is the minority (not that that's a bad thing, just pointing it out). Most listeners - whether they be critics or fans - tend to feel that Kataklysm got to the next level ONCE Iacono took over as full-time vocalist.

i saw dez and devil driver last night... they put on an okay show but the songs were shit. i could probably learn them all on guitar in 5 mins. not one memorable moment. and what sucks is that they played AFTER moonspell, so i couldn't just come late to the show... :bah:

but opeth made up for it
