Persaeus- "Synesthesia" (Axe FX Ultra, SD 2.0)

Produced a new song for my friends in Persaeus and I have to say this song is the best mix/master i have ever done for them, I'm really happy with how it came out. There's always room for improvement but every time I record them it seems to improve so I'm happy. For the first time I tried Quad...

    Double Tracking Vocals?

When you are double tracking screams (same phrase, screaming in the same style recorded twice. not like a high and a low, but a low and a low) what are some processing techniques you guys use? Do you leave them the same volume and pan them very slightly out opposite directions, or leave them...

    Vocal Recording Technique Questions

Hey guys, I am tracking vocals for a metal band tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone could lend me some tips? The reason I ask is I know I have the right gear and could be getting better results than i have in the past. I just want very clear, articulate, and "in your face" style vocals. It...

    Acacia Strain/ Emmure Type Mix

Mix is pretty awesome but my favorite part is the vocals. Very clear and aggressive, can you tell us about how you did those? (mic, preamp, post processing, etc.)

    Mixing Rhythm Guitars

I'll have to try some tape saturation, thanks for the tip. And I have my Sag at 1 notch above off, as this sounds the tightest to me, I'll mess around with adding more of it to the tone to see if it will let it breathe a little more. The Axe FX II actually has a "room" parameter to make...

    Mixing Rhythm Guitars

Just looking for some tips on mixing rhythm guitars, any tips or tricks you guys use? I use an Axe FX Ultra for guitar tones so the quality is definitely there, but I just have such a hard time getting like that "airy" feeling in the guitars you know? They just sound almost too direct...

Butter Your Bread (Axe FX, SD2)

Quick clip for an idea I had. Guitars are Axe FX, 5150 Sim - V30 Cab - R121 mic, Bass is a SansAmp Bass Driver DI direct in with an Ampeg 8x10 impulse, Drums are SD2 Avatar with the kick replaced with Slate. http://soundcloud.com/alexchapel/butter-your-bread

    Glitch Effect in Logic

If you're programming drums as well I like to place snares in the beat of the stutter I want, cut the guitars to the snares, and then erase the snares. Wah-lah.

Automating bass to a consistent RMS Level

I record 1 bass track, then copy it to another track, I hi pass one track at 100hz and apply EQ and distortion to get the twangy metallic sound, then I low pass the other track at 100hz and apply Waves Rbass to the track, the RBass keeps the low end smooth and even, then I just blend the gritty...

    "Berlin" (Axe FX, Rock content)

Yeah I agree about the cloudy guitars, I tried my hardest to EQ them (hi pass, low pass, etc.) to make them more defined but I just couldn't get them to pop. Maybe it's just the nature of the JCM2000 cab on the Axe FX but I thought it gave the guitars a more "rock" vibe. Probably should have...
