    Sludge metal. It's good;

For me, Take as needed for Pain has been the most important album, and for that reason Eyehategod holds a special place in my heart. When I first heard it, I had never experienced something so bleak or devastating. To this day, I find sludge a great deal more terrifying and hard hitting than...

    Prog Metal

Some of the newer, technical bands have been on my radar lately. The Safety Fire, Intervals, and Protest the Hero are three I've been playing a lot lately. Although I would advise that A Voice Within by Intervals be avoided, the instrumental stuff is waaaaaay better.

Really? I'm disappointed to hear that.

    Swans

The first song I heard by them was "God Damn the Sun" and was blown away by the beauty and mood of it. Since then, I've gone back and checked out earlier albums too and I must say, Swans is one of the most influential and original bands I've ever heard.

    Prog Metal

I'm curious, has anyone here listened to Dream Theater's latest, The Astonishing yet? I have heard some mixed reviews and am curious to see what the consensus on here is. Also, has anyone else felt a little disappointed by their recent stuff? Their S/T was ok, but I didn't much care for A...

    Black Metal.

I'm not a traditionalist lol so I'll have to check these out next.

    Prog Metal

The Contortionist has changed their style quite a bit. The album Language is a masterpiece, imo. The progressive elements they teased at on prior records were finally realized. I recommend it to anyone who likes Cynic, Tesseract, or other bands like that.

    Black Metal.

I just picked up Deathspell Omega's Si Momentvm Reqvires Circumspice. That's a hell of a record. Can anyone tell me if the band evolves a ton stylistically or do they retain this style?

    Black Metal.

Definitely dig Graveland. I'm not sure about Immortal though. I wanted a full-album listening experience and I wasn't sure where to start. Which Immortal albums would you recommend?

    Black Metal.

Very cool stuff! Aeturnus and Bethlehem are exactly what I was hoping for. Ved Buens Ende and Hail were also good, but there was something to the atmosphere and the way the former two bands broke up the albums with less aggressive elements. I love aggressive music, but sometimes I need a bit of...

    Black Metal.

I have "A Blaze In The Northern Sky" and "Transylvanian Hunger", and I especially liked "Transylvanian". I understand they were more death metal when they started, but I haven't heard that stuff. I've been meaning to pick up "Under A Funeral Moon". Also, thanks for the recs. I'll check these out...

    Black Metal.

Does anyone have any recs for a Black Metal noob with a background in Progressive, Doom, Death Metal? I've already checked out some of the real classic stuff like Bathory, Burzum, Mayhem, and Darkthrone, with the fromer three being more enjoyable. Also, I enjoyed the atmosphere and music of...

I've never really listened to these guys before, but man, this song hit me like a ton of bricks.
