Hey guys and gals, About a month ago I asked whether I should get Orchid or MAYH first. I'm a new Opeth fan and I was gonna get both eventually, but i like to get into discs one at a time. Anyways, the majority of you recommended MAYH...alot of you said it wasn't even a difficult decision...

Will do gatedropper, I should probably receive them within a week from amazon.com. Another question though: What exactly is "progressive" metal? Is it the shift from soft to hard to soft ect...? Is it long songs? Again, Opeth is a new band for me unlike anything I've listened to before, so...

Thanks Seth, I guess it is only a matter of time til I get both. Now, that being said, I do gravitate towards the more melodic, subtle, and emotive aspects of Opeth. Don't get me wrong, I love the heavy shit too, but that's just what I like more. Anyways, anyone else? driz

I don't think it has anything to do with grace. More to do with what the human voice is able to do. I know for a fact that Mike has a very capable voice, but sometimes the death vocals sound a little too "satanic" to be fully real....but I'm just trying to verify.

I do own Lamentations...but just because it's live doesn't mean it can't be computer generated. So who knows for sure? Is it fully real, partly real or fully fake?

"Illnath", finally a real music fan on this site. I'd love to hear Thom Yorke and the boys do a cover of something from Damnation.

Damnation is what started my love affair with Opeth. It's one of the most beautiful albums I've ever heard. It rivals even Radiohead in terms of mood and emotion. The only bad thing about the album is that sadly, Akerfeldt said it's exclusive and they'll be no more like it.
