I've heard Damage Done a lot. I tried Fiction a long time ago, but Amazon.com stopped carrying it. I tell you, the worst thing about death metal is that there's so many albums that are hard to get in the States.

    Suggested albums

I got into death metal a few years ago, and The Gallery was one of the first albums I bought to give the genre a try. I liked it enough to buy Character soon afterword, but since then I haven't bought any others by DT, since I've been exploring other bands (namely Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, and...

    Vocal style?

I've got two Hypocrisy albums, and they sound totally different. Tagtgren is the singer on Osculum Obscenum, right? At least, except for the bonus tracks, which I believe are by their original vocalist. I know he's the singer on Abducted as well, but what the heck? When did he stop doing the...

Ha, I guess that's true. I'm a big Rammsetin fan, and I don't speak German either. Then again, maybe I'd like them even more if I knew what they were saying.

Well, I can't fault you for that. For you, the vocalist is just another instrument, and for some bands, that's all they're supposed to do. But I've grown up listening to bands that make music in which the lyrics are important, ranging from Bob Dylan to Rush, so I've developed a taste that...

Psh. Barbarian. Listening to a song without being able to follow the lyrics is like looking at a colorful painting in black and white. Yes, you're going to see the same picture, but the experience is not the same.

Hmm, you're right. He might be mixing in Norwegian with English just for the sake of being strange, or because he liked how the line flowed in Norwegian. Or maybe he just growls too much :) Still, it's a cool album.

    Lyrics

I just got Osculum Obscenum, and since they weren't nice enough to include any lyrics in the liner notes, I looked for them online. Go ahead, try that. Hilarious, isn't it? Any lyrics you find online are only about half complete, with ???? filling in the rest of the spaces. Haha. It's too...

    I don't speak Norwegian

I've always said that heavy metal musicians are the nerdiest in music. This may no longer be true now that indie/emo have risen, but think about it: Led Zeppelin had songs about hobbits, Iron Maiden had songs about science fiction novels/TV shows, and black metal bands have songs about nature...

    I don't speak Norwegian

Thank you to everyone who chimed in, even the people who didn't actually know. :) Turns out, the Epic video is hilarious. Borknagar is pronounced "bork-NAH-gar" by the Scandinavian folks, but that sounds funny to an American ear, so I'll wager BORK-nah-gar is the proper "Anglicized"...

    I don't speak Norwegian

Haha, I didn't realize it was a made-up word. Well, I know a couple of the guys from the band hang around these forums, so maybe one of them can answer it for us. Anyone speak Icelandic?

    I don't speak Norwegian

So, how do you pronouce the following? Borknagar (is it BORK-nuh-gar?) Dimmu Borgir (is it DIM-mu or dim-MU? And how do you prnounce Borgir?) And an O with a stroke through it. I only speak English and German, so I have no idea how those crazy Scandinavians sound :)

I think Hypocrisy will do nicely, thank you. :)

    Questions about Quintessence

I supposed you could say the first was Freddie Mercury, and maybe the second was Rob Halford (ok, technically they're bi, not gay). But yeah, it's not real common, izzit? I've been all over YouTube lately, listening to some of the songs you guys suggest, and I've come to a conclusion: nobody...

    Questions about Quintessence

I enjoy the fact that nobody here can agree who does and does not suck.
