It all boils down to JCM900 SL-X vs. 5150 I/6505

    It was a joke.

    Tastes on Guitar fizz

Contrary to my previous post, I recently found a thread where Dan Korneff mentions using a 6db low-pass that just starts to drop off around 5kHz... from what I can tell, that means parking the filter at 9 or 10kHz. I feel like it kills the whistlefizz much more than you'd expect, without...

    Toontrack Metal Month 2016

I'm calling: - '70s prog drums, the sample sounds like Rush. - The weird picture one... I don't know Tool very well, but it sounds like Tool to me. - No idea about the guitar pack. - A metal Bass EZMix - Definitely an EZKeys pack for the last one, either haunted house organs or black metal...

Attn electro dudes: cab/head impedance mismatch confusion

Disclaimer: I'm an electrician, so this explanation may not be 100% correct. Electronics and tubes are weird. - A better rule to work with, as he mentions in the article, is "amp and cab can be one 'step' different from each other" - i.e. an 8 ohm amp and a 16 ohm cab, or a 4 ohm cab. Both...

Cryptic Writings tonematch? Cryptic Writings tonematch.

A buddy of mine over on the Reaper forum just posted a couple of IRs for use with X50 that absolutely nail the tone from "Almost Honest". You know, that deep, sexy, sort-of-grindy one. Just for fun I loaded them into my Kemper and tried them with a Crate Blue Voodoo profile (Marty's amp on the...

Stop double tracking! this pedal will be your savior

It'd be awesome for bands with one guitarist splitting their signal to two separate amps on the left and right, since they tend to just rely on Haas for their doubling. Run one side's DI through the doubletracker before hitting the rest of your signal chain and you're gold.

    What happened to this forum?

As I recall, Glenn has always recommended DIY acoustic treatment, in which case you can treat a decent-sized room in a house for a couple hundred dollars. I'd go Interface --> Monitors --> Treatment, myself, but treating rooms definitely seems to be what separates the men from the boys in this...

    Tastes on Guitar fizz

Another thing that I've found helpful recently - try hunting down all the gross resonant frequencies BEFORE you touch the low-pass. With the really gross noises notched out, you can leave a lot more of the remaining fizz/air in there.

Do you think there is a market for this product

I think the biggest problem with this idea is how insanely huge it would have to be. Space inside for a Mesa OS 412 with casters, plus an extra 12+" to fit an SM57, the cable out the back, and a couple of inches to position it. And that's assuming there aren't any larger mics, but I don't know...

Guitar EQ question, my ears are getting old...

Lately I've been trying to take care of the spiky bits (both low woofs and high fizz) before I even touch the high/low-pass knobs. A bit of a "oh... no shit" piece of advice I saw the other day was that when you find a spike, check an octave above and below it.

    What happened to this forum?

In the back of my head I've always assumed it happened when Joey got his own subforum, so he posted in here less and less and people started migrating over there. There are also more places to hang out, like SSO or the various metal/recording Facebook groups. I still have Backline and F.O.H in...

    Tastes on Guitar fizz

If you're calling it "fizz" then, IMO, that means it's the part that isn't contributing anything to your tone, but that's admittedly subjective. Personally, I'd rather get rid of the 3k-6k fizz, the spike I always find around 9k, and not low-pass the higher frequencies much at all.

    Reaper Users and Drum Samples

I believe Kontakt Player is only meant for bundling with samples, you can't use it to build a kit - that's what the full Kontakt is for, among other things. There are a few similar free plugins, they probably won't load NKIs though - Independence Free, Short Circuit, for starters.

    Reaper Users and Drum Samples

By itself, Reaper just a plugin called ReaSamplomatic 5000... but depending on how the sample set is organized it might be really complicated to set up a kit with that.
