    2016 Albums Thread

Yeah, this forum has been slowly dying in the last few years. I joined here sometime after The Odyssey had just come out, I still remember how some people were complaining how King of Terrors sounded "too brutal" and not their kind of style...little did they know that would be the bands future...

    2016 Albums Thread

To be honest, I'm kind of tired of these finnish folk/death metal bands...and that's coming from someone who is from finland. I dont say this is not good music, but its been so overdone and that japanese folk vibe indeed sounds like a "gimmick" to get wider recognition.

    Recommended Symphony X album...

The fact that you mentioned that you like fast guitar riffs and solos and on top of that have Malmsteen album cover as avatar, I would suggest Damnation Game and Divine Wings of Tragedy. And from the newer albums, perhaps Paradise Lost.

    2015 AOTY

I think the same happened with Kate Bush too, when she started her career, but then people started to appreciate her voice. To be honest, Newson's voice is unique, I give u that, but doesnt have the same power what Bush had and almost sounds like she is not sure how to properly use that...

    Best bass distortion plug-in

I've had same kind of issues with the TSE B.O.D v2.0, but dont remember having it with v1.0. For me it only occurs sometimes and re-opening my daw fixes the issue. It's like the drive knob somehow loses its effect as you described it.

    UK Tour Thread 2016

A bit off topic, but still considering their europe tour. I cant believe they are not coming to finland or sweden, the closest being denmark. Maybe they have bad experience about finland since once they were touring here with DT and the crowd didnt exactly show that much respect. But anyway...

    2015 Underworld N.A. tour thread

I dont think he ever claimed that he dont care for the album. But I remember there being interview of the whole band around the time PL came out and they were asked what is their fav SX album and when Lepond told his fav is V, Romeo and Russ laughed a bit.

That is the trend in recording nowadays. Drums are usually triggered, bass is recorded direct and distorted so it blends in good with the guitars and more than often there is 4 or even more rhythm guitar tracks to get that "wide" sound. And on top of that, it then is EQ:ed and compressed to the...

Tell that to Rhapsody . I think there is time and place for 16th note bass drumming, just like there is time and place for doing it on guitar or bass or keys, it all depends how u arrange the part.

I personally think the chorus is pretty good, but I just feel it doesnt really fit the song, like it comes out of nowhere.

    Song With Best Musical Prowess

Considering the whole band, yea definately DWOT, The Odyssey, Church of the machine, Egypt, Walls of Babylon, Iconoclast...the list goes on. But as bass player, for some reason I've always struggled with the fast riffs what are scale or arpeggio based. For example: Evolution, Smoke and mirrors...

    Absolutely glorious album

I like Isolate the best. First Chapter sounds a bit too much like DT and SX ripoff and Nine is not that interesting, just too many ballads and even the heavy songs are kinda boring to me.

I'm with you there. Especially with progressive metal, I feel too "ordinary" kind of lyrics dont really fit the music style. For me the lyrics doesnt even always have to tell any story really, for example I like Opeth's lyrics coz often they are more like just phrases and not really storytelling.

Well I would rather look at the number of views in their latest lyric videos. Nevermore has over 400,000 views in 2 months, so I would say they are not decreasing in popularity.
