Just wrote, recorded and mixed a new song in 3.5 hours - feedback wanted!

Sounds like a metal ballad! :) Here's my tips : As for production, kick sounds pretty decent...but I'd say you should find a new snare sample, quick. Then learn how to mess with velocities a bit so that part around 3:30 where the snare goes from 4th notes to 16th notes sounds a bit more...

    NEW LAMB OF GOD

They need to ditch the Mesa Mark IVs...I hate the way those amps record through ANY speaker/cab, preamp, or microphone. I owned two of them, and while they were pretty damn fun to play live, I hated recording them. From listening to them rave about the IVs on the live DVD, I know that they...

I want this sound!! NOW!! (studio vid. included)

Yeah man, that surprised me too...that bass had quite a bit of dirt on it.

    Condenser mics on guitars...

Yeah, Chaosphere sounds a lot like a condenser to me. The tone on that album is so weirdly awesome....if that makes any sense. Completely unique.

    Condenser mics on guitars...

Anybody a fan of condensers on guitars? What's your mic and favorite technique? I've used condensers before to good effect on clean tones...but I've never liked them on high gain too much. I'm think I'm going to try it again, any tips or recommendations?

How Do You Guys DIY Master Stuff?

Yeah, always seperate the two. Never try to master while you're mixing. All though I have heard of many pro engineers mixing with a compressor on the main buss...but not a full-on mastering chain. I also seperate tracking from mixing, I used to find that when I was tracking my own stuff I'd...

ooo, nice big card board box arrived!!!

I love 5150s, I should buy another one. Shouldn't have sold the two before that I had. :)

How long have you all been mixing/producing/mastering?

Since, uh...2003? I've only gotten very serious about it in the past year or so. I was always so discouraged by bad results that I didn't take it seriously...once things clicked and I started getting decent sounding stuff it just took off from there. My first recordings are hillarious.

    Double tracking quad tracking

Whoa, I'm the exact opposite. I went from an entire wall of guitars to just double tracking and I think it's superior. I like to hear little nuances in the guitar playing, and quad tracking seems to smash all the tracks together into one big...thing. Double tracking sounds like two individual...

    Home limiting/mastering

I'd say the guy who is talking about limiting during mixing has pretty much got it right. You really can't leave it up to the mastering stage for loudness...you have to address that issue during mixing also. While mixing try to keep everything under control...don't let your drums peak too hard...

    That "Clayman" sound....

I will, yes. I have a 5:30 song that I finished about a month ago, but it was sporting just a single SM57 and a G12T75 speaker. I'm not too happy with that tone. I have a song now that is with the dual SM57s and an Eminence/VHT P50E speaker in my VHT 412. I'm just now finishing tracking the...

    That "Clayman" sound....

The dual SM57 method kicks ass. I've never been THIS satisfied with my recorded tone.

What would you guys say to this 5150 review?

I had a feeling somebody was going to ask me this, I'm happy to give you info. www.fjamods.com I got my mod from this guy a long time ago back when he was just starting out...so I'm not sure exactly which one I got. What happened was I wanted my 5150 to have adjustable bias and less of...

What would you guys say to this 5150 review?

I disagree. I've owned two 5150s...one bone stock and one with a gain reduction mod for added clarity and tightness. Hell, 5150s have so much gain you're not going to notice the reduction at all. Just for comparison's sake, here is what I have owned and compared right up against the 5150s...

    Adam Jones on Lateralus...

Yeah I've followed his rig. Jones' rig is what sparked my obsession with Silverburst Les Paul Customs, lol. I'm just quite curious about the tracking of the guitars for Lateralus...which IMO, the production on Lateralus is leaps ahead of 10,000 Days or any of their other albums. I do say that...
