In a Glass House and Octopus by Gentle Giant along with Aqualung and Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull are also progressive essentials. Traffic's John Barleycorn Must Die is also an extremely worthy album of the early 70s.

Father to Son is also strikingly heavy for the time, shame they wouldn't keep up that level of intensity in their songs for long. Certinaly they had a great mix of metal/progressive on that one album. As for Rush, I'd accept the first four albums within the realms of metal and later songs...

I agree in that I consider them a part of the NWOBHM, though they certainly pointed the way forward.

Yeah all of the Metal Mind reissues are limited to 2000 copies, which is a damn shame... better get 'em while they're still there :(

It's a bit strange certainly, but my mate's already got on the train to Manchester to see them there. I'll be interested in hearing how it all goes... to be fair I'm now glad I didn't get tickets to see them, but at least they have bass for this gig, unlike one of the ones before it.
