I find that gclip really helps prevent it from destroying the master, subdrops tend to have a big spike when they hit.

Using a notch eq to cut a few db at 400-450hz seems to do the trick (at least remove those nasty harmonics)

When it comes to metal I prefer a hybrid approach, usually sampling the kick and blending a snare. Nothing beats real overheads though, but I really hate it when the drummer uses crappy gear and asks me if I can make his cymbals sound better... Rock music real all the way! Maybe some minor...

Live drums with several samples mixed in with original drums.

Guitar was 6505 through THD hotplate into impulses. Bass is DI with two tracks, one for low end and one for grit, then sent to a bus with an impulse. Can you be specific on how I mixed it? Just through my DAW

Some of their other songs show it better, but I do agree on tunings =/= brutal. They have been talking about tuning even lower but it can hinder live performance and the clarity of the notes. Cheers on the feedback everyone, I'll be sure to rework some of the EQ now.
