As promised, I am gonna explain the processing of each track.
Drums :
Kick :
The kick was made of 3 different samples, plus the original miced kick.
Each track went thru the SSL EQ (I think it was G series EQ. It really helps to bring the attack we are looking for in metal)
During mixdown, the mix of the kick tracks went in the SSL channel compressor and then to the SSl EQ once more.
Snare :
3 samples, plus the original miced tracks.
SSL (G) EQ
At mixdown : SSL channel comp (perfect for that smack!) then SSL EQ
Toms :
Miced Tracks plus samples : SSL EQ
HiHat :
SSL EQ
OH and Cymbals : SSL EQ
At mixdown, all the drum tracks went to the SSL 4 bus Compressor for parallel compression, for a litlle bit of pumping.
Bass:
4 Tracks :
Miced amp : SSL (E) (I think) EQ, DBX 160 comp
DI Track : SSL (E) EQ, DBX 160
DI Track into SansAmp PSA-1 (clean amp style)
DI Track into PSA-1 (distorded amp style)
At mixdown : SSL EQ and DBX 160 comp
Guitars :
The guitars were mainly dual tracked, and sometimes you have a guitar track in the center.
No compression on the guitars, only SSL (E) EQ.
Voice :
SSL EQ
Compressors : Distressor, Urei LA4, Chandler Germanium, plus SansAmp really distorted.
Only two reverbs were used at mixdown : I think it was a Lexicon PCM 90 on drums and a Dynacord DRP20 for the voice.
That's it!
If you have other questions I'll try to answer.
(And yes, you're right, this is more a 90% analog mix!)
