Does anyone use 12 strings in metal, with distortion?

I can't say I've ever heard it used that way, but I think it would be interesting. A 12 string already sounds much bigger than a 6 string, resonates more, and due to the sheer amount of string vibration and volume, almost seems to inherently self compress...All in all, I think it would make an interesting tonal choice, if not a unique one.

So?

Yeah, like Bon Jovi or something. :p

I dunno if anyone has ever done anything BRUTAL with it... like Death Metal... that would certainly be weird.

I'd like to try that myself... hmmm... interesting possibilities...

I'd probably tune it weird though, not to standard octaves, but some kinda intervals, 3rd, 4ths, something weird...

That could be pretty cool if done right...

Last summer I borrowed a 12-string acoustic from a friend of mine (an Eko Ranger XII).

It had a single coil pickup...

Of course I tried to (mis)use it for metal, unfortunately the pickup had VERY low output, actually somewhere between low and nothing... didn't work, but I still wonder how a 12-string electric with decent pickups would sound for metal.
