NEW YORK — The music industry has turned its big legal guns on Internet music-swappers — including a 12-year-old New York City girl who thought downloading songs was fun.

Brianna LaHara said she was frightened to learn she was among the hundreds of people sued yesterday by giant music companies in federal courts around the country.

"I got really scared. My stomach is all turning," Brianna said last night at the city Housing Authority apartment where she lives with her mom and her 9-year-old brother.

"I thought it was OK to download music because my mom paid a service fee for it. Out of all people, why did they pick me?"

Makes me want to down load more. Fuck this. Its one thing if you down load an album but a song? Unless this kid is selling the shit or burning thousands of copies I hope these lawyers die rectul and testicular cancer.

I still don't understand why the RIAA never had the S.W.A.T. team come and take my dual-cassette dubbing stereo back in 1988........?

Anyhooo....it's time for us to do something anti-RIAA..... any suggestions?
Maybe I'll start buying used CDs, burning copies of them, and then getting a full refund.
How's that sound?

Barely 24 hours after suing alleged file swappers around the United States, the recording industry has settled its first, agreeing to drop its case against a 12-year-old New York girl in exchange for $2,000.

All this sueing and compensation claims shit is getting more and more out of hand as time goes on.
and downloadings not? Just because shes not aware of the fact that its illegal still doesnt make it OK. Just like if I shoot somebody in their pinky toe but try and say, "Hell, I didnt know it was wrong.", doesnt make it OK. Fuck, this shit is stealing, plain and simple. You know as well as I do that some people havent bought a single fucking CD or tape since they bought a PC and that shit is just wrong. Hell, I thought smoking dope was fun back in the day but I knew the shit was wrong and if I got caught, my stomach would of been turning too. I dont feel sorry for anybody that steals shit, be it from a store, the internet or anywhere fucking else and thats what downloading has become, stealing. Sure, a few songs are OK and im sure bands dont mind putting a sample of their album on the 'net to be heard but its gotten way out of hand. When you can get the shit before its even released in the States, theres a problem. How goddamned hard is it to buy a CD or tape the shit off the radio? If you cant afford it, get a better job and if you still cant afford it, too fucking bad, listen to the radio!!! Maybe some fingers should be pointed at her parents for not telling her about copyright laws and how she was infringing on them. Not only does this hurt the recording artists and the record companies but also the local record stores where you can get the shit you cant find at Wal-Mart and other chain stores. Wake up people, this shit is coming to an end and not a moment too soon. Sure, there will be piracy, it cant be avoided but this mass downloading shit is coming to an end.

2000 bucks, that would of bought alot of CDs!! Too bad her stupid parents didnt think of that before. Way to go RIAA!!!

$2000 would only be 100 CDs at $20 each (excluding all taxes). Even at 15 tracks a CD that's only 1500 songs.

The RIAAs first round of lawsuits went to people who averaged over 2000 file transfers.

Since she was 12 she probably had tons of teenybopper shit and an unbelievable amount of transfers.

She wins

Tell her parents that when they shell out the two grand....so much for downloading being fun, right?

*downloads* *has fun*
They really can't touch you as long as you don't upload.

She got sued because she didn't know that

Well, I guess that makes it OK to rip people off then. Maybe, one day youll practice your ass off, record an album and ill download it so you wont see any royalties off of it. Anyway, check these numbers out.....An Industry Unstrung . . .

For years, the recording industry has unsuccessfully fought the growth of music file swapping over the Internet by going after the companies that make and distribute the software.

300 million
Fewer albums shipped by the recording industry from 1999 to 2002.

400 million
Estimated software music files shared free on the Internet in July.

Sources: Recording Industry Association of America; NPD Group

. . . So It Is Adapting

Though it is suing some users who swap files, the industry is also trying to regain customers. After resisting the idea, the industry agreed to sell individual songs online. And, the Universal Music Group recently announced a price cut, a decision analysts expect other companies to follow.

10 million
Songs that Apple Computers iTunes music store says have been downloaded so far.

$12.98
New estimated retail price of Universal CD’s, a 24 to 32 percent reduction from current average prices of $16.98 to $18.98."

Man, these guys have got to be stopped!!! I sure dont like anybody making any money these days. Maybe the record industry and artists should take a vow of poverty, thatll make everyone happy. Then we can follow that with the movie producers and actors taking the same vow and the list goes on.....I could care less if she knew what she was doing or not, its stealing, no matter how you look at it. I know im gonna hear about how you made a copy of The Scorpions "Love at First Sting" for a friend back in 1982 but did you make two thousand copies of it and give them away in the street to everyone you saw? Whats the difference in what she or others were doing? Also, being a music fan, which im sure you are, you should support the artists and the evil industry that supports these artists with money to record albums and studios to record them in instead of stealing from them. Like ive said before and im sure ill say over and over again, a few songs isnt bad (with the approval of the artist) but its out of control. You know it, I know it, the record industry knows it and now they are doing something about it. So make all the excuses you want as to why its wrong what they are doing but it makes no difference, its stealing no matter how you cut it. Let me say one more thing before I end this, Ive been going to the same record store for almost 15 years now (Phils Records, im sure some in the Cincy/NKY area have heard of it). Well, Phil, whose a damn good guy as are the rest of the guys that work there, just had to combine his two stores in NKY into one big store which I imagine had something to do with falling sales. So, remember when you download, you are not only hurting the Evil RIAA but the guy who worked his ass off to start a business selling music. I notice the press doesnt bother making him look a victim...they are too busy talking about this girl who was basically stealing and how shes a victim. So, whos really the victim here? The person stealing or the person trying to make a living selling music?

I hear you. Does this mean for all the albums I bought then taped back in the 1980's I'm liable for? RIAA could take posession of my house. o_O
