hi guys , anyone here using 2 firepods ? i just got my second one and the sync light of the second always turns red . as i see in other forums i'm not the only one with this problem. maybe someone here has the solution.. thanks in advance :goggly:

I use two, no problems other than sometimes they won't sync until I cycle the power once or twice. Did you hook them both up individually and do the firmware upgrades? Newest Drivers? Firewire card with a TI chipset?

I had the same problem. I gave up after a few days of trying every imaginable fix I could think of, and even called presonus tech support, who said I probably had a defective unit, so I kept the good one and took the other back. I probably should have just exchanged it for another one, but I had a bit of jingle in my pocket and was gassing for a new guitar, so I used the store credit and some money and walked out with a sweet Gibson SG, heh.

My old StAudio soundcard works with the firepod, but it just doesnt sync up right. I can use them both together if the instruments are totally unrelated, like say drums all on the firepod and some scratch guitars on the stAudio, but damn it would be nice to have 16 inputs for drums. :erk:

But yea, just make sure everything is updated, and you follow the most recent installation instructions you can find (I think theres a different method for the newer firmware) and if that doesn't work, call presonus, and they should be able to help you out better. From what I've read, though, syncing up two firepods is supposed to be easy as pie, so maybe you got a lemon like I did.

Yeah I got the newest vista drivers when I got my 2nd one, booted up and synced everything just fine, no issues in the year I've been running both together.

That 1 instrument thing sounds weird man- why would it matter what the sources are? doesn't make any sense.

Tried using them both with the old drivers on my friends laptop and only 1 could sync at a time. Not sure if it was the fact they were old drivers or his laptop, he's had loads of problems with it anyways.

To see if its a defective unit just try them both individually, if 1 won't sync then its a bad unit.

You need to hook the 2nd one to the first one, and the first one to the computer. Not both individually to the computer.
4 pin firewire cable will work with 1, but not 2. If you are using a laptop and thats all you have, buy a firewire card (w/ T.I. chipset)
Update firmware, it's all over the Presonus page.
Once they are both set up, you might have to change your clock rate to something else and back to make it recognize it.

I've been using 2 for almost a year and have had little trouble.

yeah thanks guys, im on the right way for all what you said, i think the problem is with the firmware... when i click update firmware it downloads and when its finished the date stays 2005... is it normal ??

Sounds weird, only problem I've heard of was when my friend tried linking a FP10 and a Firepod before he had updated the Firepod's firmware. Worked fine after he did that. What TI chip have you got, and are you using any other stuff with Firewire? I've heard it can cause problems sometimes.

Presonus stuff is really picky about drivers. However, I just built a new computer and have been using 3 Firepods chained together. I never upgraded mine to FP10s since the drivers were/are pretty stable.

I think your comp specs also will have something to do with it. I tried to run 3 on two older computers, and they just never would sync. Not sure if the FW card was the issue in those machines - or the specs.

hm , i have a nice computer i dont think thats the problem.. but maybe the firewire card is the problem.. it only has the firepod plugged in it. What you mead by TI chip ? the firewire card ?

okay thanks ill check mine, but is it normal when i click run firmware update , it downloads it but when its finished the date is the same... dating of 2005 :zombie:

If you go onto the Presonus website, the newest FP10 driver says it includes the firmware update (as far as I collected). Check there.

Presonus only reccomends IEEE 1394 devices with the Texas Instrument chipset.

yea i took it, the newest driver and firmware but the date of the firmware in the firmware updater wont update , its always 2005 even if i update it and reboot. maybe its the firewire card, i can try another firewire card but i just checked and its a VIA Fire VT6306/L IEEE 1394 Link-Layer / PHY Chipset Solution so its the good one right ?

yeah dude it looks like you need a different Firewire card, seems the only thing outta line if you've got the new updated drivers/firmware

ok my last question... does your date in the firmware updater changes when you update it ?

ok this is realy fucktop, i just plugged all like i did before , but now its working... anyways thanks for helping me, and btw my firmware still date from 2005 but its the latest drivers.:notworthy

actually thanks to apple's designing

alll firewire cards are the same. (its a secrete stores don't want you to know) :P

You keep saying that, but I keep hearing from interface manufacturers that TI is the way to go, and people who have had problems using the FW port on their MoBo with their interface that were alleviated by getting a TI chipset FW card - what's the source of your info?
