What have been the musical highlights of 2009 for you?

WASP's Babylon is the one that jumps out for me. Marvelous album.

Lord's Set in Stone wasn't too bad.

I've never really been able to get past Mustaine's voice so Megadeth's new one doesn't do much for me.

Mastodon - Crack The Skye = album of the year.

Depeche Mode - Sounds of the Universe does a lot for me. Very well put together album, and a worthy runner up.

Endgame is a good album, but not one of the bands best. The playing is incredible, but the songwriting isn't as strong as it has been. They were great live though.

Countless awesome live bands this year, I think Marilyn Manson in Melbourne stands above all as my favourite gig. Honerable mentions go to Dream Theater in Belgium, Blaze in London, and Death Angel/Armoured Saint in Melbourne. All awesome.

I agree about W.A.S.P.'s Babylon. Just a great heavy metal album. Other highlights for me:

Lord - Set in Stone
Voyager - I am the ReVolution
Riverside - ADHD
Porcupine Tree - The Incident
Rollerball - Submarine
Katatonia - Night is the New Day
Switchblade - Invictus Infinitum
Steve Vai - Where the Wild Things Are
Amorphis - Skyforger

Death Angel + Armored Saint tour
Megadeth live
Dreadnaught + Switchblade + Darker Half + Be'lakor at the Stag

TDP - Ki & Addicted are stands outs, but that could be because they are fresh in my mind
Mastodon - Crack the Skye

What else has come out this year?? I can't really remember, But I know there is alot that has come out I have really enjoyed

Slayer - World painted Blood but again only remember it because it is fresh

For me....

Mastodon - Crack The Skye (really hope they play this album from start to finish when they tour here)

Devin Townsend - Addicted

Megadeth - Endgame

WASP - Babylon

Slayer - World painted Blood (didn't like it after a couple of spins but it grew on me)

The Man Who Would Not Die is an amazing album, but it was 08, not 09.

I really enjoyed The Devil You Know, and need to give it another visit.

Samael's Above is much heavier and in the vein of their older stuff, but I wasn't particularly keen on it. The drum machine is far too high in the mix doing much of the same extreme blasting and the like. The last 4 albums are all incredible, but this one didn't do it for me.

Hmmm I only bought a handful of albums this year, so do I mention all them?

Lord - Set In Stone = my favourite album this year
Megadeth - End Game
Dream Theater - Black Clouds and Silver Linings
Muse - Absolution
Dreadnaught's newie

Live
Alice in Chains
Dream Theater
Tumbleweed
Midnight Oil and Hunters & Collectors at Sound Relief

...were the highlights I can remember.
