Well you only pay Paypal fees if you pay via Paypal. Thats the nature of the paypal beast, they charge a fee to receive money.

If you paid by credit card, check, U.S. money orders or cash then you would not have had to pay a paypal fee. You would just pay the priority mail shipping fee. Dark Horizon ships them priority mail because it is faster and safer than regular mail.

It's not a big deal really, I was just bitching because I wasn't expecting it.

Yeah, it's really annoying, but then again paying through Paypal is really convenient and they do charge merchants about a 3% fee everytime they accept payments, so we basically just have to suck it up. Ebay is the only venue where they do not allow merchants to pass the Paypal fee onto the consumers (though many Ebay merchants do it anyway and simply risk getting caught).

Paypal makes money through two primary sources, the fees and the interest income they make while they delay your transfer of funds to or from your bank account for 3-5 business days, which of course is supremely lame.

Anyway, at the very least you got to pay in an extremely convenient way. At least the merchant offered the option of paying in an inconvenient way to avoid the extra fee. But yeah, if you're not used to paying with Paypal outside of Ebay, then the fees can certainly take you by surprise.
