4 or 5 string guitar bass for record?

this its my big question.

i have a 5 string sterling guitar bass. but i lost definition with the last string . i dont know if with a 4 bass strings can be more easy record?

i tried diferents ways. playing loud, many eq. and nothing that can have me happy.

Which is the "last string"? Low B? You have to play around with string gauges to get it right but it is never going to sound identical to the E in terms of tone.

strings are from 0.45 to 130 , tuining its standart 5 strings B-E-A-D-G
