I'm sure this has been covered before, but because I don't understand half the terminology that may have been used, I'm creating this thread for people as dumb as me. Perhaps one more like me here.
How do you bring to life in 5.1 something that has a 'Stereo culture'?
For example, with a 2.0 mix, I'd create 4 tracks of rhythm, 2 panned left and 2 right. Lead vocals and solos and the snare would be somewhere in the middle. While the rest of the drumkit and harmony vox would have some sort of stereo 'balance'.
With a 5.1 or more, I'd do the 4 rhythms for example... but then how would I distribute them? How am I supposed to perceive sound in that configuration? Rhythms panned on the Front Left and Front Right... and reverberations on the rest for a live sound perception?
