How do you clean the knobs on a 5150? When I change settings (turn the low, mid, or high knobs, or even the gain etc) I get a little noise, static-ish and ugly. I was told that cleaning the knobs should fix that up. How do you do it?

Thanks!

Hi,

same with my 5150. Used some contactspray.
Just take the chassis out of the enclosure.
On the back of the knobs are 2 holes where you could spray a bit inside.
Then dial the knobs a few times back and forth and the hiss should be away.

Cheers, Hogan.

Hi there. I use WD-40. Not to much, and it take away the noises...

I use DeOxit contact cleaner. Take the knobs off, spray the shaft and turn a few times. The cleaner seeps down the shaft into the pot, cleaning it. For me, this usually works, and I don't have to take the chassis out of the head shell. But, taking it out and sraying into the pot holes would probably be a more thorough clean.

Well use something like wire snippers, that have a plier type head on them so that you can fit them under the bottom of the knob but disperse the weight/lift evenly. Just pull up and they should just slide up, might be a bit of a tug, but they'll just come right off. I use this same method with the contact cleaner/WD-40, works like a charm. Good luck.

I second the DeOxit
