It is totally safe, I asked my tech. You do need to halve the impedance.

im using 6L6 JJ power tubes (sounds good to me)...and preamps are originals. wow and mine is the old block letter 5150. I might wanna think about replacing them huh?

Just have a backup set in case they break down!

It's safe but you don't get 60w only putting out 2 tubes. You only get less sound pressure and some db less.
