Man.. when I first started to play the clip I was thinking "shit this guy needs to work on his timing) then it started to come together. that is some cool stuff riff wise. There is something about the drums from :10 - :12 that is really wrong to me.. i like the toms coming in with the chunks.. but that 2 second spot just falls apart to me... it just does not fit.. to my ears, and my opinion of course...

the guitars sound great when they all come together - i'm a fan of a little more "bite" though, and by that I mean slightly goosed in the 2.5k to 6k or so...

overall sounds really nice.. just fix that 2 second drum part that bothers me... heh.

Haha actually, it's the song Polars by Textures, so I didn't write the drum arrangements ;).

I know what you mean, though, about more bite. I think I'd end up adding it after bass and vocals, a real drum mix, etc, etc..

The guitars sound a bit too loose and flabby to me. There's some muddy midrange in there that a simple scoop with an EQ would fix right up. Controlling the low-end a bit wouldn't go amiss either.

Good job on the playing. For the tone *if you are going for that Textures sound* I'd say try to make the guitars less muddy and boomy. The guitars on Polars are actually pretty harsh. Just listen to the beginning of Swandive (1st track) where you can hear the guitars without the bass.

I talked to one of the guitar players arfter a show and he told me that they use little lows and little gain on the guitar amps to keep everything clear. The little gain part surprised me a bit, but I guess it's all relative to what you're used to. Anyway, they know what they're talking about because they recorded that album in their own studio.

Using 10-56 guage strings, but I had changed them that day, so they could be slightly stretched :(.

I wasn't quite going for they're tone, as it is a bit too harsh for my tastes, actually.

I was less generous than usual with the C4, but upon re-listening, I need to give it a bit more goose.

Hammer, do you know what rig they used to record it? I know they used like 9 mics on the cabinet, and I believe it was a Triaxis/2:90 and a JMP-1/Marshall poweramp, but Jochem never posts on the Textures forum LOL.

Sounds good (5150 always does) but maybe add a little more highs like someone suggested. Maybe turn down the gain a little.

I'm having a jam tomorrow with some guys, one of them being Stef from Textures, wonder how that will turn out!

Updated with improved gat tone (IMO), and a programmed bass. Sounds better to me, but could still use some improving. Less resonance and gain on the amp itself, and tuning between takes. LOL.

Sorry, you actually seem to know more about the rig than I do.
