Just curious, how high are you folks setting the gain normally on your II/+? On the rhythm and lead channels?

I'm finding myself running mine primarily on the Lead channel with the gain around 4-6, wondering if that is approaching everyone else experience, even with a TS7 cranked up front?

When I had a 5150 II I always used the Green Channel with the gain dimed, mainly bc it doesnt have as much as the regular 5150. Now on the lead channel it was a different story. I usually kept it at 5 on the lead channel.

7 is my maximum on the red channel. any higher and its just too compressed.

my general settings on red. pre6.5, bass 7, mid2.5, treb5, res8, pres9

gives me a machine head styled tone, adjust accordingly to your pickups etc

Keep this thread going! I just got my 6505+ and need some experience!

Is it as common for people to use boosts with their 6505's and 6505+s as it is for people to use them with Rectifiers? I was having a quick jam on my new Peavey last night and it didn't seem to 'need' a boost as much as a recto does...

Recording or live?

im talking live setup but even when i record i use about 5-6 on the pre.

anything less than that is just dead i find, 3 on my head sounds like a bluesy/rock tone

i know more gain = more compression , less compression = more volume, tone, clarity etc but i just find 3 is far too low for me

on that note im playing through passive hot pickups, smoky coils, i have emg's in my jackson but believe it or not i dont think i've ever played my jackson into my peavey head.
