I hope so...actually I hope it's either completely different but great-or similar but worse
....like the 5150II perhaps....pretty much the same thing but not quite as good as the 5150

Haha.. I just want a 5150 with a useful rhythm channel, and a decent clean channel. Hell, maybe if the JSX had the Crunch channel replaced with its Ultra channel, and its Ultra channel become the 'Lead' channel of the 5150.. I think that'd maybe be the perfect amp.

Seriously... it would. As a guy who sold his 5150 for a JSX and is going back in a couple of weeks... that would be the best amp, evar.

the 5150 comes with five 12AX7 pre-amp tubes... this one comes with eight... Maybe it'll sound different at lower volumes.
number of tubes doesn't mean shit.
perhaps they're just used differently like for descrete channel signalflow etc.

Well, the 5150III is a true 3 channel amp, so I'd say that's one of the reasons for multiple tubes.
And, as far as branding goes, the amps are made by the brand EVH, which is a new brand name under the FMIC umbrella, IIRC.

Yup... I'm just not vibing tht well with the JSX - it's got this annoying high-mid quality to it. I also only use the Ultra channel, and I really miss the squish of the 5150.

I'm just glad that Eddie's finally with a company who really "gets it."
Surprisingly, it costs less than his guitars. I'm really not interested in this amp though, just on general principle.
