65 Dead after fire in Rhode Island club

Heh...when I saw this on the news last night, the first thing I wondered wasn't how many were dead or anything like that...I wondered what band was playing. Great White sure ain't worth dying for.

I cannot believe some people in here have the gall to poke fun at this tragedy. Great White's guitarist, Ty Longley, is now confirmed dead, along with 95 others so far. His girlfriend is three months pregnant. Two of my friends were able to find their way out of the club, but were pretty injured and had to go to the hospital. Three other friends of mine are missing. Their sound tech is in very grave condition too. I knew Ty as well. So for some people here, it really IS a tragedy, not something to make fun of. There are still a bunch of bodies in the club as well. My heart goes out to all of them.

This is almost too much to take in. I saw Great White myself in London a few months back (wasn't my idea, believe me..) and I've been trying to imagine what I would have done in similar circumstances. In the Mean Fiddler (where they played over here), there's one small exit that gets jammed even when folks are queueing for their jackets. If there had been a fire on that scale no one would have stood a chance.

If you go to www.blabbermouth.net, there's some links to the band's contract which covers every single angle of what the band require for their show. Unfortunately (for the member's of Great White), pyro isn't even mentioned... While the tour manager may have had a verbal agreement with the club to use pyro, any court will only be looking at the written details.

Basically, everyone involved with Great White is in a world of shit right now. I guess they're the lucky ones, considering the plight of their Rhode Island fans...

I will be VERY suprised if Jack Russel and his management don't spend a good deal of time behind bars. Verbal agreement for pyro is one thing. Letting off pyro in a pokey club is just foolhardy.

This really sucks, and makes me wonder about the venues I frequent at concerts. Most are smaller, and would have the same problems under similar circumstances.

This is nothing to poke fun at, and it should make you more aware next time you go to a concert. Know your surroundings - just in case.

Does Great White even have an official website? I'm looking for it to see what they have to say about the tragedy.

I wouldn't expect anything to be said other than the 'our prayers are with the families blah blah'

The legal machine is already started, and the singer really shouldn't have been on TV giving statements because, justified or not, he's in deep shit.

The sad thing is they didn't have sprinklers, nor did they have emergency lighting. Both are required by California Building Code and could have prevented this from being such a horrible tragedy. :(

As for blame? There's plenty of that to go aroud. How can the house staff not notice they were setting up pyrotechnics.... Someone had to okay it.

:(

Man, don't know what to say, this is pretty terrible. I've been to quite a few clubs before, and this type of thing just makes you want to stay home. Terrible...:(

Who is this band Great White anyways...? Never heard of them...

Great White's website is www.mistabone.com . But the site has been down for the last 36 hours due to too much traffic on it. The band has been around since 1982. Their biggest hits were in 1989 to 1993. They are very well known in the rock circuit. I've seen them perform many, many, many times. Jack Russell, their singer, recently released a solo album and Great White had done their final "goodbye" show. Then, due to response towards their last show, they decided to do a couple of one-off dates in California. Due to the response of THOSE shows (which was PHENOMENAL), they decided to do a short tour. You would know two of their songs by sound, even if you don't recognize the band's name or the song names. But then again, it also depends on how old/young you are as well.

Something similar recently happened in Chicago. Two men were fighting in a club, someone yelled out that there was a gun, people began running out the only non-barricaded exit, trampling each other in the process. I believe 22 people died.
