6505 woes again WTF

MetalJonesy

more metal, more booze!!!
omg, wtf is it this time

after i play on it it buzzes really loudly, then cant decide wether or not to stop buzzing.

it stops with a firm hit on the top of the enclosuer. turning standby on and off does nothing, turning it off does, but the problem arises again!!

what can it be this time??????

Perhaps its telling you, you should have bought a Krank instead lmao.

This is bad crack like :( Maybe that shop is full of dodgy gear!?

Sounds like it could be a problem with one of your preamp tubes (though without hearing the noise it's tough to say).

Try getting a fresh 12AX7 and swap out each preamp tube, one at a time, to see if the sound goes away. Hopefully one of the preamp tubes is bad and you won't need to have the amp serviced.

Umm weird, take it to the shop and ask for another one+a set of new tubes.

I'm assuming you have all the signal chain sorted, electrical outlets, ac cables, etc.

Maybe you should call a medium? could be a ghost

turned everything off in the whole house, including all kitchen appliances and its still got issues

I'm having a real issue in my house this summer with my air conditioning units causing hum/pulsing in my amps and monitors. I have to turn them all off prior to recording - never happened before - thinking it may be time to get new units, they are a bit old.

Sounds like a tube.

what do you rekon, pre or power? i really cant be arsed to take it to the store a 2nd time, and ill be without an amp for the weekend and i have lots of tracking to do!!!

ive just pushed all the preamp tubes in solidly, i have 3 old marshall ecc83 valves you rekon it would be a good idea to go through each??

ive uploaded the links to two videos, you can hear the noise, and the weird things its doing on em!!

Frankly, it soungs like it could be a tube issue but I'm a late comer here, so I don't have alll the details about your troubles with the amp bro, so I'm assuming you've ruled out the FX loop jack problem by cleaning them thoroughly? It's the single biggest cause of otherwise unexplained grief, weird noises, dropouts etc. with these amps, and any other amp that shares the FX loop design.
Sprayed some contact cleaner in the jacks and fucked the shit outta them with a cord already? Did a quick visual inspection to rule them out?
My Block letter 5150 STILL does weird shit if I don't do this regularly.
YMMV

right well ill try tapping the tubes lightly on the power stage before i take it back to the store tomorrow! the pre tubes seem ok, all JJ too!! the power tubes are rubys. i have a feeling its the power section again, but the thing weirdly flicked (like the click you hear when you turn the amp on) and the green standby light flickered, so im guessing it could be more than just valves!! hopefully itll play up again in the shop, however peavey themselves said im best of getting the shop to just send it off regardless of wether or not its playing up in the store tomorrow!

2nd 6505 in as many days, damn!!!! :(

The power light flickered? I missed that, it would seem the FX loop jacks couldn't be the culprit if it's power supply related.
Didn't know about circuit design alterations for different markets, although it makes perfect sense in retrospect.:)
