66crusher - prog metal for the intellectual

Very nice... thanks for sharing. Sea of Tranquility compared them to Opeth... I don' really see it. Will buy.

I wouldn't judge based on the YouTube clip above. If you heard most of the rest of it, you might then hear some of the Opeth-isms. I also hear some similarities to While Heaven Wept...quite the mixed bag...

An honest question bros, but why is this prog exactly? This sounds about as much like Rush or Yes or King Crimson as it sounds like Nickelback.

This is a good disc ... reminds of Enslaved and Opeth musically at times, but contains all clean vocals. The vocalist is very good .. music is interesting. I also get a little of that While Heaven Wept vibe as well.

You raise a good point. So good that, in your tribute, I will rename their style once and for all.

This band now plays Gorp Metal.

Yeah, I know. You owe me a beer next time I see you.

I guess that kind of depends on how you define Prog Metal. Is a band Prog Metal because they're similar in some way to DT/QR/Rush/Savatage? Or is a band Prog Metal because they're progressing the genre in some small way?

For what it's worth, in the reviews I've seen, the reviewers tend to begin their description by talking about how hard it is to classify these guys. Perhaps the very act of spanning multiple genres, makes you progressive in some way?
