7/21 9:30 Club Opeth/PorcupineTree

Hey yall,..,i just got back,..,dude,.,.i chilled with both of the martins.,,.back stage,..,it was awsome.,.,then i bumped into madkill and he took a picture of me with the backstage pass.,,.lol.,.,i was too high to remeber to give it back to him,..,. hehe good times man,..,,Opeth is fucking awsome,.,,.

I just want to say, the show last night was absolutely amazing on so many different levels... Opeth sounded as godly as I was hoping for this tour, since last time the sound had been questionable at Jaxx... The 9:30 club's acoustics were perfect for the haunting sounds that were filling the venue. And Mikael seemed to be in a great mood, talking and laughing with the audience, even relating an anecdote about a 'brunch' they had with the label and a woman who mistook them for Lynyrd Skynyrd...

The one ugly mark on the evening... regarding the guy who kept shouting for "heavy shit" ALL NIGHT... fuck him... FUCK HIM in his STUPID ASS...

Even after Mikael explained that they didn't have the equipment to play anything heavy, he still kept shouting "play some fucking death metal"... Mikael really seemed to be disturbed by this, and kept trying to explain what they were trying to do... what the idiot was shouting was just really fucking rude, in my opinion. I hope Mikael knows that we Opeth fans love what they're doing, be it mellow or heavy, and continue to support them.

That dude was even shouting shit during Porcupine Tree's set. "Play something heavy". What a prick. Dude, if you want to see a death metal show, go see a fucking death metal show. You make the rest of us sick.

'nuff said.

there was also a guy shouting to play something heavy where i was standing (in the back at the bar to the right of the stage) he stopped after me and my friend explained to him about this tour... he said he never heard of damnation...

I loved when Mikael said, "We've toured the heavy shit many times. If you were a true fan, you would've been there." Fuck yeah, put that asshole in his place. :)

I actually thought the crowd was very supportive of the concept of this tour. Most people cheered every time Mikael explained it.

Someone needs to give Mikael a map though and show him that Jaxx is like 10 minutes away from the 9:30 Club. Did he truly not know that he has, in fact, been to the "D.C. area" before?

Even though I called ahead of time and was told digital cameras were OK, they had a sign at the door saying no digital. I snuck it in and took some pics, and sure enough, they confiscated it. They told me to erase all the pics, so I erased one, took a long time pressing random buttons, and acted defeated when I handed my camera over. Lo and behold, they never turned it on and realized I hadn't deleted all of them. Yay! :Spin:

Even though Opeth didn't play very well, it was still so fantastic to hear a different setlist than the other six times I've seen them. And the sound was very good, as ConsiderateApathy said. PT was great too. Fun night. :)

Yeah. That was great. I was standing right near the jerk when he kept yelling stuff out. I actually moved towards the center to get away from him cause he was bugging the piss out of me.

Well, they were dragging on most of the songs. Mikael hit some bad notes, both vocally and on guitar. When Mikael and the keyboardist were harmonizing, some of that was off too. And the guitars were out of tune. Um...yeah. :erk:

That was awesome man ... and yes ... you were pretty stoned

So if you want the pic, post here and let me know what's your e-mail. That was some show and I'm glad you and your friends enjoyed it as much as I did ... well, minus the good stuff ;)

It was a bad ass show. Well worth the long ass drive. That city sucks. It took me forever to get to that damn place because of the traffic. And navigating, holy shit. Forget about it. Show was killer. Most of my pics sucked 'cause of no flash. Opeth were godly like always and PT rocked as well. It's a shame so many people left after Opeth's set and didn't hang around to see them. They missed out that's for sure. I think every concert I go to someone yells out "Freebird"! It never fails. I thought it was a southern thing, but I guess not.

I was there... Lina I saw you several times and was against the balcony on the right side as opposed to the left with my ex-girlfriend but I didn't want to be that weird guy who pops up and says "Hey I know you from a message board!".

As for the show it was EXCELLENT! Though when I did notice some of the small errors that were made during Opeth I was thinking in my head... I know Lina will comment on this. Hah.. not to be insulting I just honestly thought that.

Just got your PM too. You're right, I was looking for the long-haired version of you. I'd forgotten you cut it. Damn, I wish you'd said something! Any chance you'll be at Jaxx for Enslaved on the 30th before you leave?
